Morning Meanderings… Cover Lovin’!

Good morning!

I am so freshly awake.. honestly I am not even sure if I am awake yet.  I think I woke up with a catching of my breath… seriously… not sure what that was about other than the internal alarm saying time to MOVE.

Gah…

it was right.  😛

Yesterday afternoon was BEAUTIFUL for many reasons… the biggest is that after the morning cancellation of life due to the snow storm…. I went to work and by noon by evening training class was canceled and all evening commitments I previously had were canceled due to the weather.  Then an amazing thing happened…

around three in the afternoon, the sun came out.  It had stopped snowing, the roads were finally plowed clear and all was right again with my world.

NOW – any sane person would have probably taken full advantage of a night off…. which I did…. but not by staying home.  Oh no… Chance and I went out to Chinese buffet (seriously – its like crack to me) and then to the movie which I LOVED.  LOVED.  That is two for two… last weekend Al and I went to Lincoln Lawyer and that was so fantastic as well.

Limitless left me with a great message on power.., I talked about it all the way home…

Anyway… so now what i was going to talk about this morning…. maybe I should change the post title?

Nah…I am back on track now.

I was curious if anyone else gets excited about new covers… even perhaps to the point of wanting a favorite book that you may already own – in the new cover just because it is WOW.

At the theater yesterday I seen that the posters are up for Water For Elephants.  I can not wait!  I love the movie poster!  When Chance and I got back in the car after the movie…. I pulled out of my back seat a copy of Water For Elephants with the new cover.  I grinned.  Chance looked frightened by my odd enthusiasm….

“What?” he said…

“Look” I said, in my best Smeagol impression, “New Cover”.

He was not impressed – but I am as now I have the awesome cover of the original Water For Elephants:

and the super awesome new one that makes me excited to read this book all over again 😀

I have seen other old and new covers too.  And normally I don’t go for the movie cover…. but there is something about this one that reminds me of this book, what is inside these pages I treasure so…. and makes me want to return to them.

  1. Good morning, Sheila! Glad you liked the movie. Hopefully you didn’t eat too much Chinese (really, is there such a thing??)…..

I have the original cover and I am going to be reading it soon I think. Personally, if I really enjoy a book I usually skip the movie. It just never seems to compare!

    1. I didn’t eat too much – only one plate 🙂 I don’t know why but I do like to see the movies and this one I think with the good actors makes it even more appealing…. I love good movies almost as much as I love good books. 😀

  2. i love the new cover! but then i love the old cover. i have to read it quick before the film comes out! i hope you are having a good morning!

  3. I loved The Lincoln Lawyer…will have to check out Limitless.

But in the previews before TLL, there was one for Water for Elephants. This is going to be SO good!

I agree about book covers…some absolutely grab me. I like the “movie” one, too.

  4. I want to see the Lincoln Lawyer after finally seeing a trailer for it last weekend.

I haven’t read Water for Elephants yet but I have to say that I prefer the new cover-it would make me pick it up more than the original. I think it will appeal to more readers though I’m not sure how well it will match the tone of the book. Would some people pick it up for the romantic look but find a more literary book inside?

    1. Christine there is another cover with a woman on the front that I like better than the original one…

I know some people do not like it when a cover is replaced with a movie cover…. I even being one of those people… however in this case – it appeals to me… 🙂

I think the cover will draw them in with the actors on the cover and the storyline 0 hopefully if they did it well.. will blow them away.

  5. I like the movie cover versions of The Lord of the Rings and Memoirs of a Geisha more than the original covers. I also like the movie cover reissues of Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice.

  6. I like the original cover. I read this book years ago and my alumni magazine did a feature on the author-turns out she is from my hometown and we went to the same undergrad. Yeah for the Canadian girl who is making it big in Hollywood.

  7. I don’t remember covers; I’m more attracted by the title or even just by a good review. Mainly I look for authors. I’m always hesitant to see movies made from books since I’m usually disappointed. I do hear that The Lincoln Lawyer is a good movie and I think I might like that more than the book. Now there’s a surprise! I had previously decided I would skip the movie. Oh well, probably won’t be able to get Dave to the theater anyway.

  8. I am so glad you had such a delightful evening. 🙂
As for the covers, the new one is not to my liking, I probably would not even pick the book up with that cover. I did read the book and prefer the older cover, but in all fairness I rarely like covers they place on books when a movie is to be released..

  9. I was at Borders Monday and saw the new Water for Elephants cover and really wanted to pick it up, even though I have the original hardcover. I’m absolutely in love with it. It’s so beautiful and makes we want to read the book again. I might just have to get it for the sake of having it…lol 🙂

  10. Wasn’t Limitless so totally awesome?! I really didn’t want to see it, but my mom did so I went with her last weekend and I’m SO glad I did. One of the most excellent movies I’ve seen in awhile! Totally edge of the seat and mind-blowing!

I am going to start on Water for Elephants next week for sure. Can’t wait for the movie. May have to get the new cover too because Robert Pattinson is on it…LOL!

    1. Oh I loved it…. I thought is was so good and was worried it had just been so long since I seen a good movie that maybe I just love everything I see…LOL

      I thought it was brilliant!

You will love Water For Elephants 🙂

  11. I have a love/hate relationship with book covers. I admit to being influenced by them. A great cover will lure me in (at least to check it out) even if the book isn’t worth the read, while a boring or stereotypical cover might make me pass up a book I’d actually enjoy reading. I usually dislike the movie cover. And while a new cover might freshen up an old favorite, it sometimes misleads people into buying a book they’ve already read. I love my copy of copy of Gaiman’s Anansi Boys because I picked it up in London and it has the UK cover. It makes me feel very worldly although I doubt anyone else even realizes it’s supposed to be awesome. LOL
