Morning Meanderings… Feb Recap and winners

Good morning!

This year I started the WHERE Are You Reading Challenge and I have already been having a lot of fun with it.  The idea was to just read what you are planning to read anyway – and just see where in the world you are reading.  I offered prizes as you got to the end of the year if you were able to read in each of the 50 states, and bonus entries and prizes for those who read outside the states.  You can find all details here.

Each month, I would like to recap where we have been and how this challenge is going for us.  Here is where I am for the month of January 2011:

In February I have read 13 books and 4 audio ( 11 books so far in January, and 6 audio).  On my Reading Map they have landed: (Jan and Feb combined)

Georgia

North Carolina

New York (2)

Minnesota (3)

Vermont

California (2)

Mississippi

New Jersey

Maine (2)

Illinois (2)

Connecticut

Washington

Missouri

Massachusetts (2)

Utah

Oregon

Pennsylvania

South Dakota

Washington

Iowa

One unknown (Clementine – friend Of The Week!)

Saudi Arabia

Australia

Singapore

I am having so much fun this and love seeing where I am reading!

For those of you participating in the WHERE Are you reading challenge, please feel free to create a monthly wrap-up post and link it here if you would like.  I plan to do this each month.  For those of you who are not connected to this challenge, it is not too late to start your map and join in!  Challenge details here.

As for the February comment winners –

My randomly drawn winner of a book out of the “Reading Cafe” (Yes, I changed the name…. more themed for me 😛 )is:

Rural View – Views From The Countryside

And the winner for the most comments in February and the $20 Amazon gift card is:

Hannah from Wordlily

Thanks everyone – I so appreciate your visits and love discussing books with all of you.  The March contest – starts today 😀

I have been having some lap top “opportunities” so please bear with me while I get this all straightened out.  I am missing my blog visiting time and will be back to visiting soon.  😀

  1. Congrats to Rural View! 😀 I’m loving seeing your map come together.

And I hope the computer troubles get straightened out soon, and as painlessly as can be!

    1. Hannah I am really having more fun with the map than I thought I would. I am not reading intentionally at this point – just letting the pegs fall where they may, and finding it interesting to see where books tend to be set at.

It was fun to put Certain Women out there in the water 🙂

      1. Oh yeah! I know it was technically then, but I associate it with NYC as much or moreso, so I hadn’t thought about it from that perspective. 🙂

          1. I suppose it’s kind of like how I had trouble remembering this was set in a particular time in history, you know? It felt so contemporary to me.

  2. Hey, this is great! I’m sending along my snail mail address in case you don’t have it now and my choice. And, thanks for becoming a follower on my blog. I’m happy to welcome you to my musings and book reviews.

  3. Cool, Sheila…and congrats to the winners….except for the map part, the challenge sounds good. I think the map looks complicated…but maybe that’s just me. LOL

  4. I figured out in February that I read a lot of books that take place in England. I’m going to make an effort to find books from more states now. I put my link up to my update.

    1. I am surprised how many I have read set in Minnesota and in New York. It funny now as I will see where a book in from and I am either “yeah” becuase I need that state” or “ahhhhh” because I did not. 😛

  5. I think i might have to start the where you are reading thing – it may give me the chance to broaden my book horizons!

  6. Clementine lives in Boston, so that’s another Massachusetts for you. She tells us as part of her biography. Part of the fun is figuring out where the book is — I’ve just emailed the author of one book (well, the jacket said she answers every email).

I’m having fun too, but I’m not getting as many states.

  7. Congrats to the winners and it’s great to track your progress isn’t it? 😀 I may have to join the Where are you Reading one of these years. 🙂
