Morning Meandering: Batter Blaster – It’s What’s For Dinner!

Good morning…. 😀

I am not really a gimmick girl… the “as seen on tv” doesn’t phase me….I pride myself on passing on crazy packaging or the stunts that are done to make old products more appealing.  I say “pshaw” to all that.

Unless…

there is a sale.

(You know there is a story here).  My local grocery store had a product called Batter Blast.  See exhibit A:

Batter Blast is basically a pancake in a can.  You shake it and spray it like cheese whiz into your fry pan and whip up some quick pancakes.  Priced out at 2 cans for $5, I took one look and thought, “FUN!” as I plopped two cans into my cart.

That was over a week ago and they have been in my frig ever since.

Last night was a typical Wednesday of getting home around 5 pm and have to be on the move by 6:30…. my window for anything I need to get done including supper, is a small one.  Al was not going to be home for supper so it was just Chance and I and I was not really hungry so I gave him two options… on our way to town we swing by and grab him a Little Caesar’s Pizza – $5 at the drive thru, or I could make the Batter Blast with a side of turkey bacon.

Batter Blast won… hands down.  I heated up the pan, read the instructions and pressed out a pancake… first attempt, the pancake was too thin and burned easily. Batch #2 was better but my pan was still too hot and I was having trouble turning them fast enough… by batch three, Chance was involved and along with pressing out the letter “C” ’cause that was what we wanted to do, we also make a couple nice batches of pancakes.

Over all thoughts:

Me:  Meh.  It was cool but actually was hard to press the button and really it’s not like it takes all that much work to whip up a batch of fresh pancakes.  It’s also cheaper to make them from scratch.

Chance:  Loved it.  He thought they tasted good and it was fun to squeeze out the shapes.

COFFEE CUP and I are up and preparing for a busy day.  I am leaving for the cities at 10 am for training and will not be home until 5:30 or 6 tonight.  Then College Son Justin is supposed to be over for super and we are thinking about taking in a movie… I would like to see Just Go With It.

I really dislike my days being so FULL.  I am the type of person who needs to unwind and have a little quiet time.  When that is hard to come by…. I start to feel tense.   I have a class Friday morning and I meet with Connie 11 – 1 tomorrow to continue recording her story.  After that….  I am home and chilling for what I hope to be, most of the weekend.  😀

Right now…. I miss books.  I need a good uninterrupted reading session.

I will leave you with this question… have you ever bought an as seen on tv  item?  What was it?  How did it work out for you and most importantly….. where is it now?  😀

  1. i hope you get some quiet time soon! i know exactly what you mean about missing books! when i am running around and reading in fragments it is difficult to feel like i have really sunk into a story! have a great day!

  2. Oh my gosh that reminds me so much of the no-bake-cheesecake-in-a-box products I used to see in Aldis in Wisconsin. 😀 That’s frickin’ awesome that you tried it!! But I agree, pancakes probably taste better and are cheaper from scratch. 😀

  3. I have never even heard of batter blaster–it must not be available here. I got sucked into buying the little blender that was all the rage a few years ago, The Magic Bullet. I used it a few times and then the novelty wore off and now it is sitting boxed up in the garage! Damn those infomercials! LOL

    1. Julie my hubby got that for me for Christmas a few years back. He was thrilled – I was scared! I never did figure it out… everything I tried to “chop” came out slaughtered with a soup like consistency. GAH! :eazz:

  4. Sorry to report that I haven’t tried anything I’ve seen in an ad, but that sounds like fun…and now I’m thinking about pancakes and turkey bacon, and wishing I had some…thanks a lot, Sheila! LOL

  5. the seen on tv things, for me at least, are cheap and break easily..there’s a reason they are buy 1 get 3 free!!
i think you are my soul sister…i don’t like not having down time every day….reading for a couple of minutes before bed doesn’t count
best wishes to you for down-time weekend!

    1. Thanks Diana, I am working hard to keep my Friday pretty free… I think other than one meeting, I can do… Chance is staying at his moms tomorrow evening so I may be having a quiet afternoon as well…. 🙂

  6. Thanks for the product review; will avoid this one. Although, it probably is not very cost effective anyway for my rather large family.

I hear you about needing some down time. When I know that I have several days full of activity/commitments well, I start to become a bit anxious and a grouch. I need “me” time, time to deflate, and go into my own world. I don’t like always being on the go. I hope that you get some breathing room today. 🙂

  7. I can’t recall succumbing to anything ‘as seen on TV,’ but hey, at least you got a good story out of it! Trying new foods from the grocery store is always fun, though. Growing up we used to get crazy fruits, vegetables, etc.

  8. Cannot think off the top of my head what I have bought, but know that it is never as it appears to be on the TV ad! 🙂

  9. I hope that you have a nice relaxing weekend after this busy day!

I haven’t purchased a tv sale item, but my grandma used to get our Christmas presents that way. The only one I still have is the tupperware type containers on a spinner (and that’s more because I’ve been too lazy lately to clean out my cupboards). Oh, I just remembered another one I still have – the hanger space saver, which I use as a belt hanger (for belts I’ve never worn, I might add).

  10. It makes me tired just reading about your life, so I understand the ‘tense’ thing. Here’s hoping that you get a nice relaxing weekend. I wanted one too, but I am getting my twin grandbabies–21 months. No rest for me–or books read probably, except “Goodnight Moon”. lol
oh…and I’ve never bought anything from TV EXCEPT the Time-Life music collections. I’m a sucker for music compilations.

  11. It’s too funny that you were unimpressed but Chance loved it! I can’t think of any “as seen on TV” product that I’ve bought, but I’m sure there have been some along the way.

  12. It sounds like a fun idea, but maybe not the yummiest pancakes. I’m curious if taste wise it was any different.

Um, I remember when we were in high school my older sis and I convinced my mom we needed the Thigh Master. It was blue. No clue what happened to it but we didn’t use it as much as we should have lol. 🙂

  13. I tried this once. Thought it would be the perfect mess free way to have pancakes while camping. We thought the pancakes tasted sour and we couldn’t even eat them. Must have got a bad can, but I’ve been hesitant to try it again.
