Good Morning!
My Snookie (NOOK) tales continue…. (trust me … when I am learning how to use anything electronic it is always interesting!) . Last night I wanted to download the first of my two books I received from Netgalley. I finished up all my things around the house and finally (FINALLY!) in the evening I was able to sit down and but the books on my NOOK.
However…
Apparently I did not know how. I downloaded one and it was on my computer but I had no idea how to get it to my NOOK. I went on Twitter for advice and this is something I LOVE about book bloggers… to my rescue came 4 incredible people who twittered me through the steps to get it done. Ending with a link that took me step by step through the Netgalley to Nook process.
They were even supportive when they told me I had to plug my NOOK into the computer to complete the download. I could not recall getting a cord for that so I ran around the house looking for the NOOK box to see if there was a cord in it. All it came with was one that plugged into the wall…. no Nook to computer cord. I looked around the house for a half hour for the Nook box.. found it… no cord. Then I started looking at my other cords to see if I had one that fit…. nope. Frustrated I went back to Twitter and said I must not have received the cord with mine.
The response:
@bookjourney The cord you use to plug it in the wall comes apart to become a cord to computer connection. via TweetDeck in reply to bookjourney
Oh good grief.
I rushed up stairs and sure enough the plug-in word came apart to reveal the cord I needed.
Mission accomplished. 😀
Oh and if you are wondering why I named the post “kidliocandesto” here is my short version of what happened at the YMCA while I was on the tread mill with my friend Heidi.
Me: …”And then I encountered Netgalley and I was really excited to sign up”.
Heidi: “So that allows you to receive books to read and review through your NOOK”?
Me: “Yes! Oh and when I clicked on the catalog and seen all the books they were offering I was like a kid in a candy store!”
Heidi: “You were what?”
Me: “I was like a kid in a candy store.”
Heidi: “Oh, I heard kidliocandesto.”
Me: “LOL, that is awesome…. that is how I am going to refer to this saying from now on!”
What things in your life make you feel like kidliocandedto?

Don’t feel bad – the first time I tried to download something on my Kobo I had the same problem! Love that book bloggers are always willing to help out though!
I love that too Bonnie 😀
Oh I’m just laughing picturing you running around looking for that cord! Since they have dismantled the Kindle button I bet I will have to download books that way also, which I haven’t done yet so wish me luck!
I think anytime that I am out shopping with my friends I feel like, how did you say…kidliocandesto!
Joanne – seriously I was looking for the box it came in to see if it was still in there. When I couldn’t find the box I figured I had tossed it so started looking for cords to other gadgets that may work…LOL
gift cards to bookstores….instant kidliocandedto!
sorta sounds like supracalifragilisticexpialidocius!
LOL Diana – it is a keeper word!
oh and how are you loving the art of racing in the rain>?????
I am SOOOOOOOO loving it!!!!! I cant wait to find excuses to listen to it 🙂
Funny that you posted this. Yesterday I requested and downloaded my first Netgalley book. It took me all afternoon to get it on my nook…I kid you not! Then I got it on there and it wouldn’t open. Had to start all over again. Finally got it to work. I am so electronically challenged. I really wish I could just wiggle my nose and have the books magically appear.
Exactly Beth! I went into immediate Twitter zone and help was at the ready! 😀
I tried to get an e-book on a publisher’s site (a Kindle, so it should have worked), but every time I clicked to “buy,” there was nothing to click to download.
So until I figure that one out, it’s going to just be Amazon for me.
I still haven’t figured out a name for my Kindle!
Laurel…. you are tempting me witht his no Kindle name…
Fantastic post Sheila…you had me laughing. I have NOOK and got it for Christmas. You and I should try the “sharing” aspect of the NOOK at some point. I feel your pain in trying to learn how to get a book from the computer to the NOOK. It took me several attempts to figure it out while following the directions at B&N NOOK area. I think I have it figured out, but will know for sure when I attempt this again.
I was unaware of Netgalley. My gosh…that could be dangerous to my reading plans. I looked around very briefly and already found a title I would like to read. If I am correct, once I have been accepted to receive a copy, I then have 60 days to read it…right? I am going to have to pace myself. 🙂
Ibeeg, I have no idea how to do the share part but I think that is awesome so yeah, I am in!
Yes to the 60 days – I have learned that much 😀
Good to know that everyone is so tech handy out there 🙂
Oh yes – there are incredibly smart book bloggers and e reader users 😀
THat would be my big concern-I am not a techie person at all. Two days ago I was frustrated because I kept on turning up the volume on my IPOD and it was not getting any louder-duhh-the earplugs need to be in your ears not down your shirt (I only wear one plug when I ride and tuck the other one into my jersey).
That is so funny Esme!!! Sounds like something I would do! On Monday I was running around the house before my work out to find my IPOD shuffle only to discover I had already clipped it on my shirt…. 😛
Sheila you are not alone. I am so technically challenged its not funny. I remember getting my Kobo and had no idea what I was doing but like you say put a call out to bloggers and they are more the willing to help. I love my Kobo and netgalley.
As for your question I get all kidliocandedto when a author comments on my blog, I get a surprise package in the mail or a surprise gift card. Isn’t that the best feeling though?
Cindy I have never heard of Kobo! And you are right – author comments are total kidliocandesto! 😀
Figuring out new electronic toys is always a challenge, isn’t it?
Yes Kathy! 😀 I get so excited to have them and then I have no idea what to do with them!
I love your humor!! What would we do without the internet and those willing to help???
I get that kidliocandesto feeling when I walk into a library book sale 😀
Staci that is a great use for kidliocandesto!
At least the ending is happy and you were finally able to get a book downloaded onto Snookie! Glad I could help you accomplish your goal!
Right Michelle! 😀 I am happy about that!
kidliocandedto << what a funny term. lol
I think it is when I am in the bookstore and get long list of book that I am going to buy XD
Right Aleetha! 🙂
What a great post!
I’m hoping to purchase my NOOK this week or next week, I”ll be coming back to the link you posted for some help.
kidliocandedto – my new favorite word – for me it has to be seeing a bunch of books in my online cart at Barnes and Noble!
It is such an excellent post! I hope it helps you too – it walked me right through it 😉 That – and some great advice from the Twitter pals 🙂
I want a nook in the worst way but this is what I’m afraid of – technology and I don’t play well together!!
Have fun with your new gizmo.
Thanks Kaye – I still have a lot to learn on it Kaye but by the time I need it for a big trip I will be ready 🙂
My computer. I still don’t know all I can do with it. Things disappear and I don’t know why or how to get them back. Twitter and Facebook still are hard to navigate. I have no idea how to download something to a zip drive or disc. I just learned last week how to make folders and move things to them. I have been using computers for years, but am still clueless about a whole lot.
I am learning all the time Pat. Thank goodness I work with a group of very brilliant computer people. When I am stuck they help me through and I am left in awe 🙂
THANK YOU! I could not for the life of me figure out how to get my NetGalley books onto my Nook. Without those instructions, I’d still be sitting in front of the computer. 🙂
Wahoo!! I love me some new free books.
Oh good – glad to help 😀
