Happy New Year!!! COFFEE CUP and I have been deep into reading since about 8 am this morning. I have this thing about the first read of the year being very important (crazy small town girl thing I think… probably shouldn’t stand too close…) and therefore I am still working my way through the final pages of said book… that I will be announcing yet today.
Normally, I spend New Years Eve with a nice dinner with Al or playing board games at a friend’s home. If we just do dinner, like we did last night, we are usually home by 9 pm and I ring in the New Year by reading through midnight. It’s true…. and I was home by 9 pm but this time I did not read.
*pause for fellow readers to shudder at that thought*
Ahem. Instead… Chance and I loaded up on junk food and watched the rest of season three of LOST. It’s true…. and it was fun.
Now though… I have to make up for my lack of reading because I am really excited to get the first review up of the year. There is something about starting my WHERE Are You Reading Challenge on a fresh 2011 Google map and placing that first bookish peg…. it’s like being the first to walk on freshly fallen snow.
I have some bookish plans for 2011… Book Resolutions I guess I could call them…. they are:
More Author Interviews
Consistent Book Giveaways including the monthly comment Love that will continue this year
Book Reviews are always linked to my WHERE Are You Reading Map and whenever possible have a picture included of where I read the book.
Word Shakers On Line Book Club runs more consistently this year with a Goal of 6 reads – better set up of how this will play out in the next couple weeks here.
That’s it for now… I am sure there are more but I really have this book calling me and I am so excited to review and start the map. If you wish to join this 2011 Challenge there is still time! 😀
In the next few days I will be posting personal goals as well as my 2010 challenge wrap up post

I feel the same way about the first book of the year. There’s something about that first book that I think sets the tone for the rest of the year. Happy New Year!
Vasilly – that is such pressure on that first book…LOL 😀
Happy New Year, Sheila! Good luck with your reading resolutions and I look forward to spending another great year in the company of you and your blog 🙂
Happy New Year to you too BW!!!
I’m totally the same way about picking the right books to kick of the New Year with. What Vasilly said is so true–the first one sets the tone for the whole year.
Have a happy New Year!
I hope I chose well then Kate 😀
Happy New Year! I am looking forward to Wordshakers starting up again.
Happy New year Jennifer! I look forward to that too, I need to look through last times book recommendations. 😀
I started my “first book of 2011” yesterday, but I’m almost finished, so it will be the first completed on of 2011. I have a page for books read in 2011 at Curl up and Read.
The Pursuit of Alice Thrift, by Elinor Lipman, is that book. I won it from you!
I’ll be looking forward to yours.
Oh nice pick Laurel – I hope it is fantastic!
I at least started with picking out my books for January for my challenges. Thats a start right lol. Good Luck with your challenges and have a great weekend. 🙂
Hi Donna, thanks – prepping the first post now 😀
Happy New Year! Ringing in the New Year by watching Lost sounds good to me. We enjoyed ours by playing games with friends. I find the first book of the new year is always important but alas I always pick a bad one!
I love board games but our usual New Years group was in Vegas this New Years and we passed on that opportunity… life happenings and all that 🙂
Bummer about your first picks – in that event, do what I did last year, my first book was a re-read of a favorite 🙂
Happy New Year!!!
I’m starting the new year with a new book for a new challenge… can’t get much newer than that, eh? 🙂
All the best for 2011!
That sounds like fun Nikki-ann! Enjoy!!!
boardgames are awesome.
Happy new year! My reading has been very slow the last few days, but i’m hoping to finish up a book by the end of the weekend.
Happy New Year Kim! It has been hard to get books read lately here too, I have been reading all day today and LOVING it!
Happy New Year, Sheila!
Happy new Year Sharon!
My first book of the new year was Spring Flowers, Spring Frost by Ismail Kadare. Good luck with your book resolutions!
I love that title Colleen! Have an awesome January!
Happy New Yearm Sheila
I am so excited to start the first day.
Because I can find out in which state/country I am for my Map
and the first state goes to Texas 😀
Have fun Aleetha! I hope to put another peg on the map tomorrow – we will see what I get in for reading time 🙂
You are off to a fabulous reading start!
Thanks Kathleen – I felt that way too 😀
