It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I love being a part of this and I hope you do too!  As part of this weekly meme I love to encourage you all to go and visit the others participating in this meme.  I offer a weekly contest for those who visit 10 or more of the Monday Meme participants and leave a comment.  You receive one entry for every 10 comments, just come back here and tell me how many in the comment area.

Its been a good week back home and of course (of course) I did not get as much done as I always think I will.  I did ok but have been battling a head cold nasty sinus thing here for the past three days and has really made me not want to do anything much but sleep and watch 80’s movies.  (Hey – do not judge me!)  😀

So here is my week in review:

A Darcy Christmas

Bookies December meeting…. potluck and gift exchange

The Christmas Sweater by Glenn Beck (Bookies book review December read!)

Sawyer On Lost…. can’t get enough of his nicknames…

Gourmet Rhapsody by Muriel Barbery (author of The Elegance Of The Hedgehog)

Secret Book Santa!  LOVE THIS!!!

Author Chat with Beth Hoffman (yeah…. that’s right SSSQQQUUUUEEEE!!!)

Almond Peanut Butter Ritz Cookies recipe (Recipe from my friend Heidi and uhhh…. YUM!)

The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams by Rhonda Hayter

This week I am planning to read:

Grace, 17, loves the peace and tranquility of the woods behind her home. It is here during the cold winter months that she gets to see her wolf—the one with the yellow eyes. Grace is sure that he saved her from an attack by other wolves when she was nine. Over the ensuing years he has returned each season, watching her with those haunting eyes as if longing for something to happen. When a teen is killed by wolves, a hunting party decides to retaliate. Grace races through the woods and discovers a wounded boy shivering on her back porch. One look at his yellow eyes and she knows that this is her wolf in human form. Fate has finally brought Sam and Grace together, and as their love grows and intensifies, so does the reality of what awaits them. It is only a matter of time before the winter cold changes him back into a wolf, and this time he might stay that way forever.

The wolves of Mercy Falls return in this sequel to Shiver (Scholastic, 2009), and familiar characters mingle with more recent recruits into the Minnesota werewolf pack. Sam, now cured of his werewolf affliction, is adjusting to year-round life as a human. His girlfriend, Grace, suffers from headaches and other symptoms that may be related to a childhood wolf bite. When her parents discover Sam sleeping in her bed, they ground her and threaten to keep the two apart permanently. Tremendous angst and declarations that parents just don’t understand ensue. Meanwhile Isabel, whose brother did not survive the meningitis cure that saved Sam, feels a strong connection with Cole St. Clair, one of the newest members of the pack. In his old life, Cole was the lead singer of a rock band. This volatile bad boy is a welcome foil to Sam, who is sulky this time around. The addition of Isabel and Cole as narrators dilutes the intensity of Grace and Sam’s relationship, and the spark between Isabel and Cole remains underdeveloped. The tantalizing possibility of Cole’s true identity being exposed also deserves more exploration.

I am so behind on this series that this week I have committed to it.  The third book in this series, Forever comes out in July.

So that is my plan this week… well that, and writing reviews I am behind on.   I really hope to get around to all your blogs to see what you are reading as well.  I pick up my best book recommendations through this meme!  😀

  1. Hope you feel better soon Sheila, lousy time to be feeling blah. I’m sure you’re going to love Shiver and Linger, can’t wait to see!
    Happy reading 🙂

PS I like your idea of a New Year card, that would have been so much better than stressing at such a busy time.

    1. My friend started doing that a few years back, sends out a New Year letter updating on what everyone did the past year etc….

I am trying it for the first time this year but think it takes a lot of pressure off me trying to get it done yet this week 😉

  2. Don’t worry, I haven’t read Shiver or Linger yet either. They’re another one of the sets of books I’m dying to get lost in, but just can’t seem to fit in. Ugh! Here’s to hoping time frees up soon! 🙂 I hope you enjoy them!

Have a fabulous reading week and a wonderful holiday!

    1. Danielle I have taken Shiver off the shelf about three times in the last year and then for whatever reason I never start it… well, I am into it now…. layed in bed this morning with my head cold… and the book. 😀

  3. I just plan to buy The Shiver this week. The local publisher here has bought the book right and translated into my language. I hope the translation is good

btw, this is the first time I join your meme.

  4. Congrats to DollyCas –

You still had a busy week of reading, even with all that you were involved in. I get tired just reading of all you do. 🙂

I posted, and finished a whole book. I even reviewed it. lol. I’m also reading quite a few books….but I doubt I’ll finish reading them in a week. I’m gonna try, though. Merry Christmas in advance…and happy New Year!

    1. Hi Kristen, so far I am enjoying the book… this is really my first walk into wolves since the Twilight series and I have some thoughts on this… but will wait for the review. 😀

Merry Christmas to you as well!

  5. Those almond peanut butter ritz cookies sound pretty awesome!
I’ve had Shiver lingering (ha! see what I did there? LOL) on my shelf for far too long. One of these days I’ll get to it.
    Hope you feel better soon!

  6. Sorry you are not feeling well, it is tough when you have so much you want to do. Enjoy the wolves of mercy falls series. With the cliff hanger of Linger its hard to have to wait until July.

    Off to visit the participants.

  7. I commend you on your committment to reading this series (YA)….haven’t done it myself yet, but the word is that it’s rather fabulous. Can’t wait to see what you think….happy reading!

  8. I can’t believe I won. I have been having a super crummy day, this computer may go flying out into the snow very soon. This has really given me a nice pick me up!!!!

To everyone signed up today, I will be making the rounds and trying to leave messages, but I am actually typing and waiting for 10-20-30 seconds for the words to appear causing several typos, so I am begging your forgiveness for any future crazy posts.

Sheila, I also love your challenge idea, but am scared about finding books from all 50 states so this year I am just going to play for fun, to see how I do. I may surprise myself 🙂

  9. Oh, so you mean I’m not the only person in the world who hasn’t read Shiver yet? Good to know. It’s been sitting my shelf for ages, waiting!

Sometimes, when you feel crummy, you just need to give in and rest and watch old favorite movies! Take care of yourself this week…

    Sue

  10. Hey Sheila,
Sorry you are feeling poorly. I was in the emergency room incoherent with a sinus infection last week. I honestly thought I was going to leave the world. So I know you are miserable. I didn’t get much reading done this week. I read Night Road by Kristin Hannah, it is due out March 11th 2009 and I must say it was really good. This week I am finishing up the 12 days of xmas bash and reading The Distant Hours by Kate Morton. I hope it is as good as the other two:) Have a great Holiday:)

  11. uh, I missed your posts this week, I need to catch up – what’s that Sawyer post – let me go check it out! Hope you’re having a fab time reading! I’m glad your Honduras trip was fun too – I had been following your posts, but couldn’t leave a comment until now. Have a great week!!

  12. I’ve heard good things about this series so I’m sure you’ll be able to power through it this week. And I’m just going to pretend that I didn’t see the cookie recipie stuff!

  13. My son is in town and I haven’t had time to post for the blog this week. That’s okay though, I’m trying to enjoy the holiday’s with no added stress!

I’m still reading A Thousand Sisters (haven’t had time to read more than 5 pages in a week). I really hope life will slow soon.

Hope you have a great week, are you ready for Christmas?

  14. Maggie Stiefvater has a great website! homicidal faeries…werewolf nookie…LOL! Thanks for the book recommendations.

Hmmmm... what do you think?
