Good morning. Yes my voice is scratchy and yes I am waking up tired even though I slept 10 hours. Such is the life of a crazy person – however… book club last night. Was worth it. The books that bring out different opinions are always great discussions and this book – was loved…. AND this book was hated. Do you remember what book we were reading?
Moving on – I mentioned yesterday that I had my Ted Dekker review going up yesterday as well and believe me I was thrilled when I discovered my tour date was today – not yesterday, thus saving all of you from the over kill of posts yesterday. I love BBAW…. I have to participate. 😀
*pause for drink of coffee*
Ok…. so I mentioned a turnip. You read that right. My dear friend Becky brought me a turnip to work yesterday. Yes. A turnip. You may wonder what I would do with one turnip. Apparently… I would feed a family:
I know right? We had a good laugh about this. I am not sure what I am going to do with it yet but I think it calls for a special recipe.
SO what is with my t-shirt? Am I all “DEKKERed” out? Hmmmm… I think there is a chance you can win it! Well, not the one I am wearing – but one for yourself. Your own. 😛 Really. Watch for my book review later today for Immanuel’s Veins by Ted Dekker. Oops! Did I give too much away? 😳
Last thing before my coffee cup runs dry…. yesterday’s BBAW Random.org winner from the Morning Meandering was:
Michelle from The True Book Addict
Love Michelle’s Blog!!!
Michelle recommended Pillars Of The Earth, which actually several of you recommended so I guess that is a must read. LOTS of wonderful choices from all of you that I need to take a day to look into. Thank you.
Today’s giveaway is:
SO to enter today – (and anyone who has access to Amazon can enter this one as I can email you the gift card), share with me one fictional character you would like to be friends with and why.

I would love to be friends with the main character, Annie, in Still Missing because it seemed as if she did not have too many people on her side once she returned home. My heart went out to her. And she just seemed like a cool person.
I have to read Still Missing – I have to!
Anne Elliott from Jane Austen’s Persuassion. I like her steadfastness, determination, and attitude.
Great pick Jennifer!
I think I would like to be friends with Elizabeth Bennett from P&P.
She would make an awesome friend Marcie!
Great giveaway, thanks!
I’d like to be friends with Sydney Webster from Terri DuLong’s novel SPINNING FORWARD. She’s a good person, about my age, and could teach me to knit a sweater 🙂
Not familiar with the book Mary but I could take the knitting lessons too. 😛
I haven’t read Pillars of the Earth but my parents keep bugging me to read it as they are sure I will love it.
I want to be friends with Richard Parler from Life of Pi! Yes, I know he’s a tiger but I fell in love with him so hard: he was so funny to watch and I just adored spending those few days with him while I read the book 🙂
I have yet to read Life Of Pi Book Whisperer. 🙂
Um, that’s a hard question. The first response that comes to mind, though, is Anne Shirley, from Anne of Green Gables. I’d love to be friends with her!
And: That is one giant turnip. Did she enter it in the State Fair?
She didn’t Hannah but she should have – she entered her bread and rolls and other veggies in the county fair and took blue ribbons. She cracks me up, she volunteers in my office and has time to make all these wonderful things plus a garden!
I think the turnip missed the fair in August. 🙂
That is a really tough question – there are so many! I won’t go for my first instinct and say someone from Harry Potter, I have to be more creative than that…
I will have to go with Colin from An Abundance of Katherines. He is such a strange guy, but I think he would make a really great friend. I just wouldn’t want to be one of his Katherines. but with my name…
Great answer Caitie…. haven’t read the book but you make it sound interesting. 😀
I’d like to be friends with Goldy Schulz, the caterer from Diane Mott Davidson’s mysteries. She’s fun and makes great food (and treats)!
Sounds like a good friend to have DarcyO!
jessica by bryce courtenay…..she was so strong…so honorable….just feel like she would have a lot to teach me!
Diana I love reading about strong female characters.
Turnips?! Check out John Pinette’s comedy routine on turnips. You’ll laugh ’til you cry (In fact almost all of his stuff will do that to you)
I will have to do that RJ! Thanks!
This is one of those questions that is almost impossible for me to answer because I am such a character person. I love characters, and the more I can identify with them emotionally, the more I love the book. But I think one of my newer ones that I came across was Cleopatra Selene in Cleopatra’s Daughter by Michelle Moran. I loved her spunk, and her strength, but most of all I loved her loyalty and devotion to those she loved.
Lisa I love characters too and really take them to heart… so many I would like to hang out with…. in my mind I could create a little town…. the Cullens would be my neighbors… Harry Potter would live up the street, Rebecca would be the store owner…. 🙂
I would like to be friends with Eve Dallas from J.D.Robb’s In Death series. I really like how she thinks and she could use a few more good friends. I wouldn’t mind spending some time around Roarke either!
Carol I have never read Nora as J D Robb. I should do that some day.
That’s some turnip! I love to eat turnips raw, but eating that one would take me a month! Congrats to Michelle!
Kathy I usually eat them raw too -yum! This one thought may require a little something extra thought 🙂
Dayne Matthews from the Sunrise series by Karen Kingsbury is my fictional character that I would love to be friends with because even through his faults there was only one true love- his Katy Hart.
What A Turnip!
I have read some Karen Kingsbury but not this series…. Dayne sounds like a cowboy name…. am I right? 🙂
My choice of friends would be Laurie from Blind Hope by
Kim Meeder and Laurie Sacher. Laurie works at a youth
ranch where broken horses and broken children help each other to heal on a daily basis…Then, Laurie rescues Mia, a dog who quickly becomes her friend and finds that Mia is helping her more than she is Mia. I am a dog lover and believe in their power to heal people.
Many thanks, Cindi
HI Cindi I have Blind hope waiting for me to read it. What a great answer sounds like I would want to be her friend too.
Love that turnip Sheila! You must share the turnip recipe once you find one, and make it. 🙂
By the way, you look great! I hear you about feeling tired even after 10 hours of sleep. What’s up with that? For me, I am thinking it is because it remains dark later into the morning now, and it is starting to become darker earlier in the evenings.
Ted Dekker…I have only read one of his books, and remember really liking it. I look forward to reading your review later today. 😀
What fictional character would l like to friends with and why? Okay, this is a team choice because I just cannot separate the two. Jamie and Claire Fraser from the Outlander books written by Diana Gabaldon. Why? First off, they are steadfast loyal and caring people. I would know that if I were friends with them, and they looked upon me as a friend, that they would be friends that you can count on to help you out in time of need. They are strong resilient type of people who are intelligent along with possessing a great amount of common sense. They would be good people to have around. Granted, I probably would lust a bit after Jamie, but am thinking that Claire’s friendship would most definitely outweigh that. 😉 By the way, I do like Claire’s temperament.
Hi ibeeeg! Thanks for the compliment! I think I look… tired. 😛
I think I am sleeping so much because I am so busy and stressed lately that I get home and all I want to do is sleep.
Great answer be the way – love how you describe Jamie and Claire, they sound wonderful!
Hm, who would I be friends with…the first person that comes to mind is Nick from Between Mom & Jo, so I can hold him as he goes through his crushing depression when his moms split up…
Hi Amanda! I am not familiar with this book but sounds like Nick made a great character impact on you. I need to look into this book. 🙂
We love turnip but that would be a lot for just us. You’ll think I’m crazy but i would like to befriend Grandma Mazur or Lula from the Stephanie Plum books. They are such a hoot and there would never be a dull moment.
Kaye! Oh my gosh – Grandma Mazur! That is sooooo funny and she would be a hoot! I have a girl in my book club who adores her as a character too. 😛
I would love to be friends with Eeyore from the Winnie the Pooh stories. In need of some laughs and tender loving care, I’m sure I could put a smile on his face.
Oh Eeyore always broke my heart Terry…. he was so sad…. I am glad you would be his friend. 😀
I would like to be friends with Nina Reilly, from the Perri O’Shaughnessy series. She leads an exciting life, she’s a strong and independent single mom, and she has lived in settings with which I’m familiar—Lake Tahoe and Santa Cruz, CA—so I can visualize myself hanging out with her.
BTW, the turnip looks fabulous, but I can’t imagine what to make with it!
Great pick Laurel.
I don’t know what to do with the turnip either…. now it has become a mission. LOL
Are you going to eat that giant county fair blue ribbon turnip?
Wow who would I want to be friends with is a difficult question. I think it would be cool to meet robin hood, katniss, mercy thompson …..
Appearently I like characters that can battle.
kjovus
kjovusatgmaildotcom
You do like to battle kjovus! Great picks!
I do plan to eat the turnip…. not sure what I will do to prep it yet. 😀
I would have to say Jo from Little Women. She was so independent and self sufficient, but she was also kind and took care of the ones she loved. Who wouldn’t want a friend like that?
Colleen Jo was a fantastic character and youare right – so loyal. Very friend worthy.
I think it would be cool to be friends with Acheron from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series. He is pretty powerful and loyal to those he cares about.
I am not familiar with his but he sounds like a strong character. I like that. 😀
I would love to be friends with Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy. She’s so kickbutt and fierce and a strong friend!
April I have to read that book! I like strong friends! Great people to hang around 🙂
I was going to say Jo from Little Women but Coleen Turner already took her! My second best would be————————–
Snow White. I would love to take care of the seven dwarfs!
CarolNWong(at)aol(com
Hi Carol, Jo could probably handle more than one friend – but Snow White would be wonderful too. 😀
Wow, the list is endless! But I guess for now I’ll say Gen from Megan Whalen Turner’s The Thief. What a dude.
jenstusue AT yahoo DOT com
Suey – I need to read The Thief!
What a difficult question for me! There are just SO many to choose from! I think that out of all of the characters that have spoken to me in the past year or two the one that one that I would pick would be Claire from The Outlander Series. She is an incredibly strong and resilient woman character who was challenged with so many moral and ethical dilemmas and I think our personalities would probably mix well.
Sarah I hear such good things about this series…. some day…. I have to get to these.
I’d like to be friends with Anna Pigeon from Nevada Barr’s series. Nevada is such a hoot, and I think Anna is funny and fascinating. And we both love the outdoors.
Good pick Barbara!
I’m going to say Lessa from Anne McCaffrey’s Pern books because then I’d get to hang around the dragons often and with luck impress one of my own. 🙂
Alyce that is fantastic – friends with dragons as bonuses!
great question…lark summerville from ‘women’s intuition’ by lisa samson
Karen now I want to know who Lark is 🙂 Your answer seems very self assured…. like you knew all along who it would be…. I like that!
I would like to be friends with Molly from a Homemade Life-not sure if this counts given it is her book-reading the book you felt like you were her friend and knew here. You look slimmed down.
It counts Esme – why not? 😀
Oh and thank you for the compliment – I hope so! 😀
Since I just read Finny by Justin Kramon, I’m going to pick Finny herself. She just seemed like such a fun gal. I would love to win this!
I have heard good things about Finny Jo 😀
I would be friends with Hermione from Harry Potter. I think we have a lot in common.
amandarwest at gmaildotcom
I love Hermoine! She would make a great friend and someone you really would like on your side.
Now that is an easy one…I want to be friends with Edward Cullen…just because…
Excellent pick Patty….. just because….
😛
I would love to be friends with Atticus Finch. His principles, values and strength always inspire me.
Oh me too Ellie…. what a great person to hang out with and such great morals.
Someone whom I would want to befriend is Gabriel Allon, a character in the novels which Daniel Silva writes. He is brave, talented and a real man.
I dont know the books Pearl but the guy sounds nice. 🙂
There are lots of possibilities but because it’s fresh on my mind, I’m going to go with Zell of Simply from Scratch. Her character is real and hilarious in my opinion!
Hilarious characters would be fun to hang with. Everyone needs a wild and crazy friend… they are awesome stress relievers. 😀
I would love to be friends with Alice from Twilight
Brandi I love this answer because Alice is my favorite (other than Edward) Twilight character. She is sweet and caring and would make a wonderful friend.
Fictional character… I would want to be friends with Claire from Outlander because she’s lived in two time periods and I think that’s facinating.
Or, I would want to be friends with Katniss from The Hunger Games (but from the very beginning of the story).
Page – I like your friends 😛
I would love to be friends with Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird.
Mari I bet Scout would be interesting as an adult….. as a kid, she would have been awesome to hang with! 😀
That is for sure the biggest turnip I have ever seen!
Isnt it Lola…. so funny! 😆
I love this question! There are so many fictional characters I would love to meet. Now as for one I would want to be friends with….I think I would have a lot of fun with Juliet Ashton from The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society! Probably all of the characters in there actually.
Trisha this is why I need to read that book… apparently there is a friend waiting inside the pages for me to discover. 😀
That turnip had me ROFL-ing!
As for the character question, I would say Judy from Daddy-Long-Legs, because she is so hilarious and witty that I would not have a single dreary moment with her!
AThs, well veggies are good for us right? 😀
I think it would be fun to talk to Miss Marple. She is a feisty little lady!
That would be fun Margie!
Attack of the Killer….Turnip?! Wow, that’s huge!
Thanks so much Sheila! I taste chocolate and tea in my future. =O) Do I need to email you my address?
I have so many favorite fictional characters, but I’m going to pick the March sisters from Little Women. I would love to be made a part of the their circle and join in with their plays in the attic. Especially Jo. I’m the most like her. Bookish and rebellious and always passionate about some form of writing.
Yes Michelle – I will email you to connect… I ran out the door after posting today and never got a chance to send out an email 😀 Yes – chocolate and tea for you my friend! 😀
Great friend picks too!
Adam Dalgleish the detective from the P D James series!
A detective would be so fun to hang out with…. I would love to go on cases with him! 😀
Hmmmm, I’d like to be friends with Melanie Hamilton from Gone With the Wind because she’s so mellow.
Cathie I have yet to read that book. I know… I know…. the shame of it all!
😀
I would have loved to be friends withe Anne Shirley. Not only did she have that great imagination when we would have been growing up, but she got to live in Patty’s Place with her friends while at college. I wanted to live there too!
Awesome pick! What fun that would be Julie!
I’d like to befriend Melody, the girl in “Out of My Mind” by Sharon M. Draper. Melody has cerebral palsy and was never able to talk or write until she got a machine like the one that lets Stephen Hawking “talk.” She’s smart like Hawking, too.
Wow Bonnie what a wonderful pick. I dont know the book but I will be looking it up. 😀
I would like to be friends with Eric the Vampire from the Sookie Stackhouse series (and from HBO’s True Blood). What could be better than to have a friend who would drain someone of blood that bothered you? Better watch out, all you people who drive in the passing lane while dialing on a cell phone! Bwahaha….
LOL JIll – I have not read these yet. I have picked up books one and two but haven’t got there…. maybe during the October read-a-thon?
I am going to stop texting and driving right now so your friend Eric doesn’t drain the life out of me! 😛
Gosh, I love so many characters, hence my FFC feature on my blog…but if I had to pick one it would have to be Vanyel Ashkevron because I respect his willingness to help to others and his kingdom despite the consequences to himself.
With your love of characters Ryan I am going to believe that Vanyel would have to be a wonderful choice! 😀
I would love to hang out with Molly Jennings from Talk Me Down by Victoria Dahl because her sense of humor seems to match mine in the fact that we often let inappropriate things come out our mouths that causes people to cringe. lol
Also because her brother Quinn is my book crush.
Casse
LOL Casse… you two sound like you would be dangerous together! 😛
Congratulations, Michelle, enjoy the chocolate and tea.
Sheila, that turnip is big enough for several meals, unless you are feeding an army. Mix boiled potatoes and boiled turnip and mash together with butter, salt and pepper. It is a good combination. There are a lot of good soup recipes that use turnip. Enjoy.
Sounds good Pat – I may do just that! 😀
I would like to be friends with Stephanie Plum, from Janet Evanovich’s series. Just because I think she is cool and would be a lot of fun.
Anita, Stephanie would be handful but maybe she would introduce me to Ranger….. LOL 😀
Diana from Anne of Green Gables. I’m basically Anne anyway. lol. 😉
Awesome giveaway, thanks for the opportunity!
misusedinnocence@aol.com
Sure Emily! Glad to have you play along! 😀
My pick is Mary Poppins! She is just so lovely and whimsical there would never be a dull moment! Cheers!
Super pick Heather!
That’s one amazing turnip. And I love you for making a Batman reference. 😉
LOL Hilde, Batman is very convenient to use with almost anything….. 😛
