Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows (AUDIO)

The seventh and final entry to the Harry Potter series we start this audio with Voldemolt (gah!  He who shall not be named!) coming and taking over the Ministry of Magic.  These are dark days, and Harry, Ron, and Hermoine, have all dropped out of school to do what they can to put a stop to Volde… He Who Shall Not Be Named’s rule.

What was once a series of light-hearted fun reads with a little “spooky to them” but a lot of magic, has now entered the seventh season and the books have become much more serious, and quite darker as they progressed.  Volde…. He Who Shall Not Be Named (HWSNBN)started out a scary guy but beatable and as we enter into the Deathly Hollows , HWSNBM is a force to be reckoned with and really – I for one had no idea how it would all end.

If you have been following my audio reviews of the Hatty Potter series you will notice that I somehow skipped many books and wound up in book 7.  This is true, and was a total error on my part.  I have been picking these up from the library and I requested the wrong one… I should have been on Goblet Of Fire.  Yet, once I had these cd’s in my hand, I could not give them up and so just started listening.  (I have read all the books so really…. there was no spoilers!)

I will rave forever about Jim Dale’s narration of this audio series and have to tell you if you have not experienced these books on audio you are truly missing out.  Jim voice takes you right into the reading and he does the voices so well that I actually get goose bumps as he booms out the voice of Hagrid, Snape, and the others….

I am always so impressed with JK Rowling too.  Every time I listen to one of the books, especially the early ones, I am amazed at how many seeds were planted early on that would come up later; many books later.  I had forgotten until I listened to them after all the books were out and especially in this final book you see pieces of other books coming into play.  (A great blog to check out for super detailing on each of the books is The Zen Leaf, Amanda’s eye for detail astounds me!)

So for me – this was an excellent experience and I hope to one day own all these cd’s for myself.  Maybe, this was the audio I was meant to listen to as this movie (at least part of it) will be out this November.  I truly cannot wait!

The seventh and final installment of the Harry Potter series, left many of us Potter heads (*raises hand*) with a bitter-sweet feeling.  I remember I was so excited for the final book to come and see what JK Rowling would do to tie everything together – and at the same time, you didn’t want to finish it because in your heart you knew it was the end.   I had hoped that JK would leave it somewhat open in case she changed her mind years down the road, but for those of you who have read this book, you know that she did her best to close the doors to that hope.

However – rumors have sprouted around the internet that maybe…. there may be another Harry Potter book.  J K is quoted:

While Rowling said that she has no immediate plans to write any more Potter books, she didn’t rule the possibility out altogether. Instead, she suggested that “maybe 10 years from now” it could happen.

She also told one child she does want to write more books, adding that, “I’m quite sure in the not-too-distant future I will bring out another book.”

Marjorie Kehe, April 6, 2010

So I leave you with this….. do you think there should be another Harry Potter book?  Or should J K just leave the series as is?  If there was another book, what could/would it be about?

  1. That’s a hard one since she did try and close everything up. I enjoyed the series very much and would love to see them continue. I think I will leave it with nothing is impossible.

    1. I am torn too Deb…. you would hate for a book to come out and flop. Harry Potter is been a part of my life and my kids lives for so long I think I will always be a fan 😀

  2. Well, I guess I’ll have to start reading them…maybe I’ll like them. I didn’t like the movies very much.

I have an audio book of Patterson’s Private, and this will be my first audio….I’m sort of reluctant. Even though I remember listening to radio stories as a kid (before TV), my mind works better with visual images.

    Oh, well.

    Thanks for sharing….

  3. Deathly Hallows was so bitter sweet, but by far my favorite in the series. I loved it just the way it was, and think that Rowling should leave Harry alone.

If she wants to write another series about another group of kids at Hogwarts, when Hermione is a professor there, I might be okay with that. 🙂

I would (and have) read anything she writes.

    1. Alison – it would almost have to do with the kids of Harry, Ron, Hermoine, etc…. in a way it would be kind of cool to see Hermoine as a professor…. of course they have killed off the bad guy…..

unless….. a horcrux was missed….. or not entirely destroyed…. (like a bit of you know who remained….)

  4. I would love more books about Harry Potter’s world even if they weren’t about Harry Potter. Maybe something from the next generation at Hogwarts.

    1. Alyce that would be so cool too! I cant wait to go to Harry Potter world at Universal Studios…… I hope to do that in the next couple of years…. I will take out kinship partner Chance so it looks like it is all for him…. 😀

  5. Honestly, while I don’t think there should be more Potter books (why ruin a beautiful thing?) I know I’ll continue to read them if more come out. I just don’t want her to destroy this thing she’s built!

    1. That’s the danger right Amanda? It would make me nervous…. what if it didn’t live up to all I hope for? LOL

I continue to search for that amazing series that will give me what this one did and I have yet to find it….

  6. I honestly think that any further Potter books would be pointless – we all know how it ends, what happens to all the character, etc. Of course I would read it – I grew up with these books and read them all many, many times and cried at the end of each (starting with book 4).

But if she introduced a new plot, it would make the original story trivial, and I can’t have that. So I think she should leave Harry alone. 🙂

But yeah, book 7 is completely different than any other in the series and I remember I was so surprised by how dark it was (obviously, I expected this to an extent, but this was just overwhelming at times!).

    1. As the books progressed Nikola I noticed the change…. probably because my kids were reading these as kids books and then they started to become more….. well,I guess if you look at all the YA now, Potter was nothing from the usual. 😀

  7. As much as I’d love to have more Potter, I don’t think it’s possible for there to be any more HP books. The story was entirely wrapped up, and I think it would be strange to have a book retell “the past” so to speak.

  8. I’m in two minds on this. On one hand, I’d love to read more of Harry Potter. On the other, I’m afraid that the story might be ruined. 🙂

    1. Kah thats exactly where I am at….. in my heart I want to go back and recapture that magic…. then there is also that chance of disappointment…. GAH!!!

  9. Jo tied everything up really well, but my thirst for Potter will never be satiated. With another author, I would worry about new material not living up to the old and maybe even messing it up, but I know that anything from Jo would be akin to the brilliance of, well, another Harry Potter book! And that could never fail to make my heart flutter. I don’t think I would like another plot as much, to be honest. If anything, I’d prefer if it took place right after the Battle of Hogwarts, not nineteen years later with their children. I started reading HP when I was really young, and I’d want to keep growing up with the trio. I trust Jo and any decision she would make. She would never put out anything unless she knew it was right.

  10. I have never read these books but on the recommendations of so many book bloggers I’ve been listening to the audio too and I agree with you completely about Jim Dale being an awesome narrator!

    1. Right, anything I see on the internet says she is saying maybe in 10 years she will put out another Potter book. That will be interesting to see in ten years if I am still super excited about that. LOL

Awesome trailer. I had not yet seen it.
I have not yet read DEATHLY HALLOWS. I have waited to read each book just before the movie comes out. This way I don’t ruin what happens in that movie by what I know will happen in the next. I really need to read Book 7, but as curious as I am about what happens, I am sort of dreading it. The trailer really is chilling.

I have ORDER OF THE PHOENIX in audio and need to listen to it.

    1. Pat the book is a perfect wrap it all up book and obviously not as light hearted as previous books. JK Rowling is in battle mode. 😀

Make sure you let me know when you read it and what you thought!

  12. Do you think there should be another H.P. book? Part of me thinks yes just one more but an even bigger part of me thinks leave the books on a high note with readers wanting more rather than risk them becoming bored or the story lines becoming predictable.

    1. I am pretty much where you are at Petty Witter. I am sure I want a book for purely selfish reasons…. deep down I can admit that it wouldn’t be the same, I think it would be good – but what we have in the seven books is and always will be, The Harry Potter books.

      *sigh*

      😉

  13. I agree with you that Jim Dale does a fantastic job with this series. When I bought the Deathly Hallows audiobook I dragged out listening to the whole thing because I knew that it would be the end of the listening experience (even though I’d already read the book). I started listening in 2007 and didn’t let myself listen to the final couple of discs until 2009!

If she writes more books set in the world of Harry Potter I hope it would be during an earlier time period, short stories about the adventures of Harry’s dad, etc. during their youth, or maybe stories about Harry’s children or grandchildren. Really I’d read anything she writes!

    1. Christina you bring up an interesting point. I hadn’t really though about her writing a new series but I bet she could. I am with you, if she wrote it I would have to give it a try 😀

  15. I don’t think Rowling should do any more books with Harry and she should just end on a high note. I wouldn’t mind her doing something set in this world though!

    1. That would be interesting Ladytink! I just think she (JK) has such an amazing mind. To come up with all that Potter stuff – the spells, the train, Hogwarts, classes, Volder -…. well, I just think the woman has such a great imagination! 😀
