Ok – I seriously blinked and missed the weekend. I traveled to our cabin on Friday, did some cleaning and reading, and came back Saturday evening. Sunday morning we left early to take out youngest son to college and help him set up his apartment he is renting. By the time we got back to Brainerd…. the weekend had passed us by.
Here is what I read happened here this past week:
Review Not Without Hope by Nick Schuyler (heart wrenching read!)
Review: Game On Diet by Krista Vernoff and AZ Ferguson (You may want to read this review as I am going to be talking A LOT about this book in August! 😀
Review: The Color Purple by Alice Walker (I had never read this before and it really blew me away!)
Finished reading/listening to:
Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows Audio (review coming soon)
The Wildwater Walking Club by Claire Cook (review coming soon)
Auf Wiedersehen by Christa Holder Ocker (review coming soon)
Men and Dogs (audio) by Katie Crouch (review coming soon)
Hailey Twitch is Not A Snitch by Lauren Barnholdt (review coming soon)
I had a good reading and audio weekend due to all the travel. This week will be a tight one with the big bike ride this weekend I know I will pretty much get no reading done over the weekend. So knowing that here is my plan for this week:
This is a tour book coming up on Wednesday and I am kind of pumped about this one! 😀
This one is from my library giveaway and the winner (Jennifer) chose this as my next read. Once it is read I will be passing it on to her and then I will run the contest again. 😀
And that is it for my plan – I am keeping it light this week, if I am able to complete more I will be thrilled. So I am so anxious to see what you are all reading (now that my name is cleared at the library…. LOL see my I am on the lam post about that one…. hee hee)
Please enter the link to your Monday What Are You Reading below where it says “Click Here”. Have a good week with great reads! 😯
Have a super reading week!

I really enjoyed your review for The Color Purple – it’s one of those titles I’ve heard of but never really looked into reading. It’s now on my short list.
Oh good Lydia – I know you will really be amazed by it!
Sounds like you liked Hearts on a String more than I did!
I havent started it yet Lisa – I am starting it tomorrow for the tour…. I will have to look at your review once I finish mine… 😀
Thanks for hosting this wonderful meme! Your books look great, and I’m very excited about what I’m reading, too.
Oh good Laurel – on my way over 😀
The Colour Purple is an amazing book and one you know you’ll never forget.
Have a great reading week! 🙂
You are right Cat. That is one book that will not leave you.
What a great week you’ve had! Oh, to take the time to read (listen!) Harry Potter again. Can’t wait to read your Wildwater Walking club review.
Enjoy your week.
Melissa if you have not tried the Potter books in audio I highly recommend it! I dont have the time now to rea them again but having them in the car with me….. has been awesome! 😀
Great reading week. I just got Men and Dogs from the library and can’t wait to read it. I’ll be interested to hear how it is on audio. Have a great week!
Crystal – the audio surprised me and I will be very interested in hearing what you think of the book. 🙂
Glad to hear you liked The Color Purple. I’ve heard good things about the movie and this has certainly made me curious about the book.
Kah you must read the book! 🙂
I linked up, this is fun thanks!!
jbdownie5@yahoo.com
Sure Joann – glad you could join in! 😀
I have The Wildwater Walking Club by Claire Cook on my shelves waiting for me. Have a wonderful week reading.
It is good Jennifer, and her writing is consistent. After reading the Seven Year Switch it was fun to see her writing remains fun and light, and her topic is consistent. I like that.
I keep meaning to start the Harry Potter series…I haven’t ever read them, if you can believe it. But, I’ve got to pack things up, so I will wait on that one 😦
Crystal you must read them…. all of them. Take a month and read them all 😀
I hope you have a great week and enjoy your books! 🙂
Thank you Kelly, you too!
I read and reviewed Auf Wiedersehen and thought it was pretty good!!
I will pop over to see your review too Celtic Lady – I have mine written just need to post 🙂
Please Stop Laughing at me sounds interesting. I wonder what it’s about, I have to check it. Have a great week – hope you get loads of reading time. 🙂
Its a memoir Aths and about a girl who is picked on in school. I haven’t started it yet but my son read half of it on his way to college and he said it was relaly interesting and sad.
Looks like you had a great week. I’ll have to try to stop back to read some reviews.
I hope your bike ride is fabulous fun!
Enjoy this week’s reading too.
Thanks Martha E – I am hopeful for good weather, thats all I really need 😀
I’m re-reading all the Harry Potter too at the moment and I cannot wait to get to Deathly Hallows! I have never re-read that one!! I’m looking forward to your review too!!
Tif I seriously could shut the world out and read the whole series again….. what an addict – LOL!
I highly recommend them in audio if you have not tried them yet. Fantastic!
I have heard the audios and the narrator is one of my all-time faves! I’ve got my mom’s copies for books 5-7. I may have to pull those out soon!! I have to get through GoF first!!
I wish I owned them Tif, I have been getting them from the library. 😀
I am currently listening to Deathly Hallows again in my car and enjoying it. I look forward to your review of it and the Claire Cook novel.
Have a great week!
Christina isn’t that audio fantastic? LOVED it…. makes me want to read the book …. again. Oops! 😀
I’ve never read, The Color Purple, but your review made me want to!
Deb I think it is a must. 😀
Hey Sheila….thanks for coming to visit my blog! Just as you left I posted my what I am reading if you are interested in coming back 🙂 I felt awful you came to see your meme and I didn’t have it finished quite yet 🙂 So sorry about that!
Your books sounds great this week….looking forward to hearing about them 🙂
Have a blessed week and Happy Reading!
Hi Loren – I was stopping in to see you and what you had going on. 🙂 Meme reading will start later today! 😀
You have a wonderful week as well!
I don’t even know how many blogs I looked at! It was so much fun!
Oh good Nancy T – its all about having fun while you do it so you succeeded 😀
Here’s what I’m reading this week.
Thanks Pussreboots!
I loved The Color Purple. I should re-read it. I need more titles with colors in it, and it was a great book.
Titles with colors in them Mardel? That is a beautiful thought… I wonder what colors I have read….
I’m planning to re-read the Harry Potter books before the movie is out 🙂 Happy reading!!!
Oh Aleksandra that’s right! How did I almost forget? I may need to read Deathly Hollows again before that too. November right?
Yeah, november 18th or 19th 🙂 Can’t wait to see it 😀
Oh wow – me too!
You had an awesome reading week, aren’t audios great for travelling and for taking the monotony out of mundane chores 🙂 I’m off to check out your reviews; Not Without Hope has caught my attention.
Thanks Teddyree – audios really do make the road trips worth while…. I am a better person for it – I don’t even mind traffic. 😀
Wow this week is going to light for you. I love the title Hailey Twitch is Not A Snitch sounds cute.
Have fun with the big bike ride this weekend
I hope so Jan…. I didnt want to “over book myself (“ha ha – get it?) Ok, that was lame…. LOL
Thanks for the bike cheer!
Hearts on a String sounds good and I love the cover. Have a great week!
I like the cover too Alaine – its cotton candy!
This weekend I picked up Beach Trip by Cathy Holden at B&N. Like Claire Cook’s book Seven Year Switch, the cover has four women sitting on beach chairs with their arms in the air. I couldn’t pass it up! Have a great week.
Jill I seen that one too and thought of Claire’s cover. The cover alone makes me want to own it – let me know if it is a good one 😀
I haven’t read any of the books you read last week, even though I of course heard of The Color Purple and actually watched the movie without reading the book.
I will be curious what you think of Please Stop Laughing at Me.
Happy reading, Sheila!
I am looking forward to reading that one Lilly. 😀
Oh, the joys of college apartment living! Our son won’t be going to school this fall for the first time in years. I can’t wait to see what you think of The Wildwater Walking Club.
Hi Kathy, of yes – the joys! This is the first year he is not in the dorms. Its a nice apartment and he is really excited. It is a 3 1/2 ride each way to his college so I was able to red a couple books on the way and back while Al drove. 🙂
I posted my reading plans! I’m taking it light this week while I get used to my new job!
http://mustreadfaster.blogspot.com/2010/08/its-monday-what-are-you-reading-and.html
Congrats on the new job Melissa – exciting! 😀
WTG!! another good week!
Congratulations Lori !!!
My listing is here.
CMash
Hi Cheryl! It was a good reading week, not to get the review done…. 😀
Sure glad to hear you’re off the hook at the library, although I’m sure someone would have been glad to bring you a cake in jail with a file in it. 😀
My fine was sad Barbara, it was only $2. I felt like I should give them more…. perhaps I need to sign up to be a friend of the library…. (It’s a program they have) I should look into that. 😀
I feel much like you – where did the weekend go? We spent all day Saturday driving up and down the NJ Turnpike, stuck in summer beach traffic, to pick up our kids from their week with their grandparents.
I can’t imagine dropping my son off at college, but it’s only 2 years away!!
Enjoy your reading week!
Sue
Sue – we had him home all summer (this is college year three for him). When he was home (which was rare) it was usually with other 19, 20, 21 year olds…. that’s a lot of “Big Kids” under foot…. wanting to eat, being loud downstairs as they player Wii or watched movies.
As much as I will miss him, it was nice to have the house back 😆
I loved the Harry Potter books on audio! I thought Jim Dale did a fantastic job reading them!
I agree Kristi – amazing really!
Hearts on a String looks interesting… Oh, let’s see, what am I reading right now? I’m finished up with Mind Games by Carolyn Crane, I’m also almost finished with Radiant Shadows by Melissa Marr and reading several ebooks, among them, Judith Rochelle’s ebook Target.
Hmmm… Mind games sounds interesting. Enjoy the reads Julianne 😀
I won, thank you so much!! Thought I had a early start today but with my grandson helping me with my post it took longer than usual. Hearts on a String is on my wish list so I’ll be sure to be here Wednesday.
HAPPY READING!!!!
Dollycas
Dollycas – how fun to have a grandson help you with your post! Cant wait to read it! Oh and congratulations!
Hello, Sheila!
I have had Men and Dogs on my shelf for so long, I can’t wait to read your review!
Have a great week!
Book or audio Alison? I have be honest, if it was book I may have given up on it…. my review will be…. ugh…. I don’t know. 🙂
Wow! You got a lot read Sheila! I need to listen more to audio again. I could get more ‘read’ if I did that while doing housework. I just have a hard time concentrating on it with the kids and all. I find myself only getting bits and pieces of the story. But it’s still better then nothing! Of course I’d have to buy a new CD player since ours broke…
I’m gonna go check out a review or two of yours. Good luck on the bike ride!
Hi Candace! My house is quiet during the day (no little ones around) so audio works while cooking and cleaning. I do most of my audio while driving, I seem to be on a lot of road adventures lately! 😀
Here I am again, better late than never! Sorry I couldn’t get a hyperlink to work to come back here…I’ve been fighting with my computer all weekend!
Hi Sharon – bummer about the computer problems i hate that! My lap top is like a life line….. seriously – I am addicted. 😀
Auf Wiedersehen is on my wishlist but my libraries don’t have it! *sighs* It sounds excellent, though.
Oh thats too bad Danya – I just looked up a book earlier today that my libraries did not have either….. it was a bummer!
It’s always a joy to join in with It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? I love finding out about books I didn’t previously know about. 🙂
I’m glad to hear your name is cleared at the library! 😉
Yes Nikki-ann, the wanted poster of me has been taken down…LOL
Eep..I forgot to leave a comment this morning. Bad me. I look forward to your review on the Kris Radish book. She’s on my wishlist. (Along with a zillion others)
I’ve got a suspense novel I’m trying to read and though its less than 500 pages, its going to be a trial, considering I like shiny happy books!
Thanks Andrea – I like suspense too but like them in the winter or late fall… to me suspense is cool weather, long dark nights rolled up in a blanket …
Wow you had a great week.
I had my post all organized to post today and then forgot all about sharing it until now….we’ll call it my daily blonde moment lol
http://amomentwithmystee.blogspot.com/2010/08/what-are-you-reading-12.html
Oh Mystee…. you must learn to share – LOL 😆
You had a terrific week. Cant wait to read your review on HP7.
Better late than never – you can see whats in store for me this week at
http://www.pageturnersblog.com/2010/08/its-monday-what-are-you-reading.html
Pixie
@pagetunersblog
Thanks Pixie – I know I have to get that review up – I have so many reviews to post…. I need a plan 😀
Sometimes weekends like that can be a blessing and a curse. I also think between you and my husband I’m going to end up on a bike sooner rather than later! LOL. Not that I despise bikes, but water sports are definitely more my thing. Have a great week and enjoy the biking! 🙂
Oh excellent – get the bike! get the bike! LOL 😀
I just finished Unchartered TerriTori (Tori Spelling’s latest) and I’ve just started rereading The Great Gatsby. 🙂
I have not read The Great Gatsby – but I should do that 😀
About the Radfish read…really!???
Angie – LOL…. it was a review read 🙂 You cracked me up here
😆
Didn’t get much read last week. I was in Nashville all week. Finished one book, EMILY’S DAUGHTER by Linda Warren. Started Bill Bryson’s IN A SUNBURNED COUNTRY on the way to Nashville, but my husband went home mid-week and it went with him. Not sure when I’ll get to listen to more of it. I enjoy the audios of his books. We both enjoy his sense of humor.
Congratulations, Dollycas. I am looking forward to your review of PLEASE STOP LAUGHING AT ME. Good choice, Jennifer.
Both of those covers are so appealing I ache to pick them up right off the screen. I had to go check our Southern Oregon library system for them. They have Please Stop Laughing at Me so I have it on my list for checking out sometime this fall after I return home. I know somewhat of the lasting effects of bullying on a child’s psyche. I’m hoping this story will contribute to putting to shame that bogus, flippant, lazy, canard used by adults in authority over minors: Kid will be kids.
I am finally reading The Book Thief. Am about halfway through now and have been wearing my eyes out to push forward. If only I had read the large print before I left Phoenix! Or at least been willing to wait until I got back home to send for it again. But I’d read enough reviews to know that I HAD to read this book. It is not disappointing me.
I’m pushing hard to finish it his weekend as it was due Thursday on my sister’s card! Grace period lasts thru Monday but still I’m aware someone is waiting their turn. I’m not even allowing myself to start crocheting bookmarks with the 15 new colors/types thread that arrived in the mail Tuesday until I finish!
