Morning Meanderings…

Good morning!  It dawned on me  that when I talk about Coffee Cup…. you really don’t know who Coffee Cup is.  Prior to this post, Coffee Cup has not shown up in any pictures.  Today – that changes.

Coffee Cup in most households would probably be one of a beautiful matched set and I do own a set of nice coffee cups… but I prefer not to use them.  Coffee Cup to me is actually 4 different favorite coffee cups.  Each has a special meaning to me and the one I drink out of in the morning truly depends on my mood.

So meet the four coffee cups:

This cup I use when I am in a funny mood but I also use it if I wake up in a cranky mood – then it is just a sarcastic reminder “that someday – this may be funny!”

This one I was given as a gift for my 40th and it still holds true.  I plan to stay young and carefree and refuse to grow up.  😀

This one is used a lot.  I received this one at Spicer Castle in Spicer Minnesota when my friends took part in a murder mystery.  I like it because it says “Guilty” and I usually am about something.

This one – this one is my favorite cup and probably gets the most use.  My mom gave me this set years ago with matching canisters.  Through the years the canisters have broke, all the cups have too – except this one.

This one, when I use it, reminds me of my mom.  When I want to feel close to her, or just take a few minutes in the morning to remember what an amazing woman she was, this is the cup I use.

I am often asked how much coffee I really drink and although I talk about coffee every morning and drink it every morning – I do not drink it all day.  I usually stop around 10 or 11 am and switch to water.  At night, I go back to coffee, a cup or two while I relax, and sometimes I drink tea instead.  😀

You are probably noticing some changes around here.  For one, I painted last night.  Not sure if this color  is the final choice but I will wait and see.  I am participating as I can in the Bloggiesta and hope to find some time today to work on future posts and pending reviews.

I am also – in typical Book Journey fashion…. planning a little something “Bloggiesta”themed for this afternoon so please, stop back in if you are in the neighborhood.

Today’s coffee cup?  The 4th one.

Have an awesome day!!!  If you are doing anything fun this weekend let me know 😀

Bloggiesta hours so far:  7

  1. I like the gold color…it goes with your iconic coffee cup logo.

I like all your mugs! I have lots of mugs that have cute sayings on them, and I’m so afraid of breaking them, that I use them as decorative mugs holding pens, business cards, and post-its.

But I should bring them in for a photo op!

My favorites of those are a couple from grandkids…the first one has my very first grandson’s baby “mug” shot; the second one was made by three of my grandkids and has their names on it. So I would be devastated if either of these broke.

I have managed to get through moving with them, but luckily, since the grandkids were born, I’ve only moved once…to where I now live.

I’ll be popping back in to check on what’s happening here, in your “construction site.”

    1. HI Laurel and good morning 😀

I am so worried about breaking the last cup from the set my mom gave me, but I cant help using it. I wont even put it in the microwave for reheating for fear it will weaken….

Thanks for popping in – I am in virtual overalls today and a hard hat while I did into what makes this blog tick….

      1. Hmm, virtual overalls! BTW, you’ve probably seen the most recent mini-challenge, with the photos…I don’t have any sombreros or other exciting and appropriate gear…I’ll have to think about it.

      2. LOL Laurel, I like to give people the “visual” of me painting the blog. I did see the latest challenge…. and trying to get the creative wheels turning – but I have smelled a lot of paint fumes this morning so perhaps need to clear my head first…LOL

  2. I have a favorite coffee mug – it has a drawing of a hotel we stayed at on a wonderful vacation.
Thanks for your help re: font size. I’m so tech unsavvy it may take me a while to figure it out though. I could learn to live with it the way it is, lol.

    1. Mary – I don’t know anything about the working of blog stiff so if I can figure it out – yo will have it easy 🙂

I am going to stop over and bring coffee of course…. and check it out. 🙂

  3. I have quite the coffee mug selection in my home. However, I tend to only want to use a couple of them. There is something about the feel of a good mug to drink coffee out of…it adds to my drinking pleasure. 🙂

I hope you have a great weekend with all your blogging construction…your bloggiesta list.

By the way, it may be my tired eyes, but gold kinda hurts them while I am reading. It could also be my screen as I see things differently on my laptop vs my desktop.

Again…have fun with your changes and checklist. 😀

    1. ibeeeg – thanks for letting me know about the gold. It wasn’t what I was going for but couldn’t get the shade right. I appreciate the feedback. 🙂

  4. I’m painting too – our upstairs bathroom. 😀 Going to be a rainy, hot, humid weekend so nothing on tap that takes too much exertion.

  5. Sheila, love the coffee cup intros. They are all cute. Mine, or at the least the ones I use most, are all from bookstores. The one I’m drinking from this morning is from the The Tattered Cover in Denver. If a specialty independent bookstore has a mug available for sale, I snatch it up. It’s a good souvenir for me.

  6. Good morning–the goldish-brown background you are testing is relaxing, but the text doesn’t contrast as well for reading in low light. I do like all of your mugs–I love mugs too and tend to most use homemade pottery ones that are large enough to wrap both hands around. I try to “weed” out all of those gifty mugs every now and then, but they all hold such memories, even when not part of a set! I’m a tea drinker and drink about 4 cups throughout the morning, switch to iced tea (usually green) or water throughout the day and enjoy green or peppermint tea in the evenings. I’m reading House Rules by Jodi Piccoult this morning and am having trouble getting moving into my Saturday routine–enjoying the tea and the reading…one more chapter!!! 🙂

    1. Thanks for the feedback Linda! 🙂 Any advice on color? I was going for a purplish shade – not bright and not too dark – almost a smoky but I could not get the code right.

I may have to paint it green again 😀

      1. Laurel – yeah, I couldnt get the colors to work the way I wanted and I spent way too much time messing with it. 🙂 Maybe later tonight I will try again, but I like this too.

  7. The coffee mugs I use are not part of a matched set either – even though I have a set of 8! And I also have four of them….*cue Twilight music* And good morning to you too!

  8. Good Morning Sheila! I have a favorite coffee cup also. It is the first one I ever had coffee out of. My first cup of coffee was at my grandmother’s house and the coffee cup means a lot to me. My blog is under construction also:) I found a template I really, really like but I can’t figure out how to add scroll bars and i hate my blog list taking up 60% of the side bar, lol. If I can’t figure it out it is off to the drawing board:) This color is nice but it kinda makes my head hurt but it could just be me:) Have a great day Friend!

  9. I am so pleased that we met “coffee cup”. I am not a coffee drinker, but sometimes wish I was since it’s such a good social event!

  10. Loved meeting your coffee cups! I don’t drink coffee, but do like hot tea every now and again. One of my favorite mugs is a Mary Engelbreit design that the road not taken is no longer an option. Reminds me to not dwell in the past.

I like the purple shade in the center, but not crazy about the mustardy shade of gold. Hope you’re able to find shades you love!

  11. I used to drink a cup or two of coffee every morning but haven’t for a few years now. I only drink water (and sometimes milk) with an occasional pop when at a restaurant, or if I find a Code Red in a vending machine I might drink one.

As for tea, I’ve NEVER had a cup. I tasted it once and it grossed me out.

I also have a few cups that were my moms and when I did drink coffee I used them. Now I use them for milk once in a while.

IMHO….I’m sorry, but I really don’t like these colors. They look drab, old fashioned and I don’t think they match. But it’s your blog and you can use any colors you like. Just as I do with mine! I’ve been told my font was all wrong, and it is a mess sometimes, and very inconsistent. Maybe that should be one of my Bloggiesta chores.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. As soon as I hit “Submit Comment” and the page refreshed, I saw you had changed your center color. It looks much better now.

    2. LOL Vicki – I have been testing colors all morning and did have quite a mess on here (picture paint cans of assorted colors all over the floor)

      Still in tweak zone…. 🙂

  12. i think this is the first morning meandering where you didn’t mention what form of exercise you were going to do!!!!!!
love the cup that you use to feel close to your mom…i still run conversations in my head about mine
    have a great day!

  13. Wonderful post! I like seeing your coffee cups. Now I can picture you sitting and imagine which cup you are using on any given day….

  14. I think I understand what you mean about your mom…and feeling her…my mom died last year…and my dad two months after her…I am so afraid that I will forget her voice within my head…I worry that I will wake up one day and forget what her voice and her words sounded like…and my dad’s voice is still on my answering machine…leaving me this long meandering message…but now I love listening to it…

    1. Patty, you do understand. Its hard. On June 6 it was 14 years for me. My mom was killed in a car accident. I was 29 at the time. I lost my dad and sister in a house fire when I was 13.

I can still bring them to memory. I have moms answering machine message in a chest at the foot of my bed.

      *Hugs Patty*

      1. Sheila, I had no idea of the loss you have experienced. You have traveled a difficult road in your life, but one would never know when reading your blog. You are a true light in many peoples lives.

  15. I like the different shades of green! Are you still tweaking, or going to live with it for a few days? Also love the white borders you have separating the boxes! Very crisp looking. Great job Sheila!

    1. Thanks 🙂 I think I am going to let it sit for a few days unless I do some changes tonight. I have to still fix the left side bar – not sure how I left the pages highlighted gold….LOL 😀

  16. Love your cups! I’m with you, I have all mismatched cups with different saying and pictures that remind me of certain times in my life. A set of four all the same is just too boring. 🙂 Not much going on here. I’m been doing some writing today but basically fighting a summer cold which has been relentless. I did do one hour on my treadmill earlier and my head opened up for the first time in days. Now it’s stopped up again. I guess I need to stay on my treadmill. 🙂 Looking forward to the final construction. I like the green. I think you had a brownish color earlier this morning. Way to shake it up! 🙂

    1. Hi Jill – it was brownish/gold this morning but I was getting feedback that it had a glare and was hard to read. You certainly dont want that on a book blog 🙂

  17. Very fun coffee cups. I also like having a collection of cups – I tend to pick up one from each place I go. We have some glass cabinets in the kitchen so I put them in there. And if my refrigerator would hold magnets, I’d do that too! :–)

  18. We are in Daytona Beach, Florida breaking up our drive from the Everglades back to TN. We are not beach people. Will go to a few historic sites and look for a few more nature centers. Went to Merritt Island today.

    1. Hi Pat…. ooh I do love the beach as long as I have a good book. I still need to connect with you on a gift card. LOTS of catching up for me to do 😉

      1. Am glad you said that. The internet connections were so spotty and I was getting used to a new netbook on the trip. I thought maybe I had erased your message with the card. I know I deleted several things I didn’t mean to and some of my comments never went through.

      1. It’s fun to see your different mugs, too. I, too, have a set of matching ones, but then we’ve also got other one-offs in the rotation. Some mornings I just grab the biggest one!

  19. Sheila-good morning-I received your morning survey in my email box-when I click on it there is nothing there and it says there is an error.
