Morning Meanderings…

Day two in Florida…. day two in shorts!  😀  I am having breakfast in the hotel while the boys are still asleep.

Yesterday, Justin and I went to Pensacola Beach and read.   I could seriously do that for the next two days here…. loved it!  However my boys are complete opposites and while Justin will hang out with me at the beach and read (he is a reader!), Brad would be bouncing off the walls.  He needs to do.  The only way I will get to the beach these next two days is if I can find something to do in that area.

We picked Brad up yesterday at 4:30 at the Navy Base.  That was a pretty interesting event.  When I went in to sign him out they yell “Female on deck!”

Well…. now isn’t that awkward…

And after I leave “Female has left the deck!”

Brad toured us around the base pointing out the galley where they eat, the Nex where he picks up his food and toiletries, where he picks up his uniforms….

We then went out to eat at a place he picked, Red Robin which has delicious and totally unhealthy large hamburgers.  Then back to the hotel as all that sun had me shot!  I think I was asleep by 10:00.

Today there is no plan…. I would love to get back towards the beach but we will see what happens.  🙂  In the mean time I am happily enjoying my oatmeal and Coffee prepping a book review for today and doing a little people watching….

Justin On The Beach with Nineteen Minutes

What are you doing this weekend and what books are you taking with you?

  1. Ooh, sounds fabulous! Reading on the beach…

I had to laugh when you described the restaurant pick…Red Robin. My sons and grandsons love it there, too. The fries are large and definitely not healthy! LOL.

My daughter and her husband are going away for their anniversary this weekend, so I’ll be hanging out with Noah. Luckily, he lets me read as long as I take him somewhere. So it’ll probably be a playground …and I’ll be able to read.

    Maybe a movie later!

  2. I had to laugh with Female on Deck-at least they recognized female. Red Robin is such a younger person place. I have not eaten there in years. This past week I have made every meal from Denise Daily Dozen-I must say I have been enjoying her food.

  3. I am so jealous! Your beach pics looks so inviting! It’s much too chilly here for the beach here today and our beaches look nothing like Florida beaches. Red Robin is so good but so filling! Enjoy the rest of your trip!

  4. I have shorts on too! Woo hoo.

I’m getting read to post a review on The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. What a great book. I loved it. Then I’m going to do a 3-mile run either around a high school track or on the gym treadmill (to make sure my shorts continue to fit. lol)

See you Monday. Have a great rest of the weekend 🙂

  5. Sheila, I just wanted to let you know how much I emjoy reading your posts. I enjoy your insight in the everyday things as well as your book reviews. I live in Miami, Florida and was planning on going to the beach but the weather is not great…I will probably finish a 3-book review and clean, wash, etc. I am between books, right now.

    1. HI Kiki – thanks for the nice words – you made me smile. I have had some good reading time this weekend and am thrilled to have finished three books between the plane and the beach!

  6. Ohhh I’m so jealous! I wanna be on the beach reading, soaking up the sun. Sounds wonderful. Hope you and your family have a great weekend!

  7. Sheila, good to hear that your trip is going well. It must be nce to be able to spend time with your sons. Beach reading sounds wonderful (but would doubtless lead to major sunburn). These Minnesota legs haven’t been bared since last October. Since I have not plans this weekend, I am going to have a personal readathon and relax.

  8. Red Robin is AMAZING! They have great milkshakes there, too. How does your son like Nineteen Minutes? I really enjoyed that book. It evoked so many different emotions in me. Hope the rest of your trip goes well!

    1. Hi Lish – the food was good! Justin has read Nineteen Minutes before and loved it…. he is reading it again. I really liked that book too and raved about it when I read it. Jodi Picoult really has a way for making you route for Peter in this one.

Trip is so far a really fun 🙂

  9. I am digging through my storeroom finding things I didn’t even know I had. Will be doing more digging and more sorting. Have piles all over the place. Hope to make at least a little dent.
I couldn’t just sit on the beach. I’d have to be going and doing.
I an about 2/3 of the way through BREAKING DAWN by Stephenie Meyer. I’ve read the rest of the Twilight series. This book has taken me by surprise a couple of times. I never saw what happened coming. I am wondering what else is going to happen. Victoria and the Volturi are still out there.

  10. What a glorious way to spend the day! When we go to Red Robin, I cut my burger in half and have them box it up right away. Half of one of those is more than enough!

    1. That would have been a great idea Lisa. By the time we got there Justin and I were starved as we had skipped lunch from being on the beach all day. I ate it – all of it. :O

      LOL

  11. Glad to see you are having a great time. Love Red Robin, especially the 5 Alarm Burger. They have a new one that has even more jalapenos though: jalapeno bun, fried jalapanes, and jalapenos in the cheese. I don’t remember what it’s called, but it’s so good.

    1. That’s what I had Ryan – the jalapeno one. I love spicy food. It was called Lovin’ or something like that. It was really good…. but that is going to cost me on the treadmill. 😉
