Morning Meanderings…

Good Morning all from me in a facial mask (hey you have got to exfoliate when you can!)  and Coffee Cup steaming next to me.

Today I want to talk about word verification.  Is it just me or are these words getting longer?  Seriously…. some I can’t even do because they are so pressed together I do not know if it is a “b” or a “l and o”.   Check these out (I captured these in the wild, trying to invade my fellow bloggers):

I kind of feel like the Crocodile Hunter here…. “Crikey!  Look at the size of this word!”

I think you get the picture (My Crocodile Hunter impression again): “It’s like they’re multiplying!  These I was lucky enough to capture – but Crikey!  They are everywhere!”

Ryan over at Wordsmithonia runs a meme called Word Balderdash.  Every Thursday, Ryan as well as any brilliant bloggers who care to join him, take the best of the best word verification they have encountered from the week and make up fake definitions for them.  Being a wordy – I love this!  And if you haven’t checked this out, please do.  Ryan’s weekly post is almost always guaranteed to bring a LOL seriously out of me!  🙂

So that’s me….  I am reading away today and will have at least one review up later 🙂

  1. wordlily: We blogspot bloggers don’t have to use word verification on our blogs but some chose to 🙂

I personally cannot stand word verification and I too think that sometimes it is really hard to see the letter because they are so pressed together(and I do not believe that my eyesight is all that bad).

  2. I agree. I turned word verification off as soon as I realized how difficult it could be sometimes. I like the “create your own definition” idea. Go Ryan!

  3. Yes, I have difficulty with the words, too. Especially on some blogs! They’re squished together, like you say, and I’m sitting there squinting; then I finally put down what it looks like, and then the “verification monitor” comes back and says: “Wrong! Try again.”

As you know, I have several blogs on both Word Press and Blogger, and Word Press wins hands down for ease of commenting.

  4. I find word verification annoying as well — one too many try agains for me…LOL

I don’t use them, and just moderate comments instead.

    1. I get emails of all the comments Diane so I can see what is being said. If a new commenter to my blog leaves a comment – I have to approve their comment before it will show up on the blog. I like that. 😉

  5. Now I know where you are getting the words from-I never understood your Word Balderdash before-I do not mind when it is a word I can spell but when it is non-sensical it drives me nuts.

  6. I think it is kind of entertaining to see the weird letter combinations that come up. Often, they almost make a word. I usually don’t have too much trouble deciphering them. I may have to switch them off on my blogs if people find them too annoying. I don’t want to discourage anyone from commenting.

    1. Kathy if you see words in them (like I do….) you really should try Ryans Thursday meme. (I linked it up above). He does it every Thursday and some of the words that are invented are hilarious!

    1. I am happy when blogs dont use them Jennifer. When you like to comment like I do – and I know you do too, it takes so much longer when you have to word verify! 🙂

  7. Geez, I didn’t like word verification before but now tht it IS longer, I really can’t stand it. I seriously don’t think it stops spam anyway.

  8. Lol! A while back, as I was cursing word verification (because I so often leave comments then zip away before I realize there was a word verification), I suddenly realized that I still had word verification on my blog. Well, that was embarrassing! Gone immediately.

  9. Everyone is more than welcome to come join in every Thursday, the more the merrier. And we all have Sheila to thank for it! By the way Staci, form what I see you have no brain problems. 🙂

I don’t like using word verification but everytime I turn it off, I end up getting slammed with spam comments for some sex site in Asia somewhere. I would do moderation but I don’t have time and would probably end up leaving someone’s comment in limbo by accident.

  10. I agree Ryan – sadly, word verification does serve a purpose. None of us want to wake up to our blog having been taken over by advertising and such things we would really prefer were not on our blog. 🙂
