This One Is Mine by Maria Semple – GIVEAWAY!!!

Hachette Book Group?  You rock!  Thanks for letting me give three copies of this book away!

This giveaway is now closed

Violet Parry is living the quintessential life of luxury in the Hollywood Hills with David, her rock-and-roll manager husband, and her darling toddler, Dot. She has the perfect life–except that she’s deeply unhappy. David expects the world of Violet but gives little of himself in return. When she meets Teddy, a roguish small-time bass player, Violet comes alive, and soon she’s risking everything for the chance to find herself again. Also in the picture are David’s hilariously high-strung sister, Sally, on the prowl for a successful husband, and Jeremy, the ESPN sportscaster savant who falls into her trap.

Sound good?  I thought so too!

To enter this give away enter with the form below and answer this question in the comment section:

This is not the cover you will see on the book sale sights, however I like this one better than the one they actually have on the book now. Reading the above synopsis of this book, how would you design the cover to capture the eye of potential book buyers?

This giveaway will end on April 1, 2010.  Good luck!

I would probably design the cover purple with a black base guitare and different colored lights on the cover

Funny, I was thinking something similar, what with the bass player angle. Maybed jewel toned colors and some jazz instruments shadowed in! Looks like a good one, please count me in!

    Hiya Sheila,

Your question on the Eclipse Movie release date is June 30, 2010 so I hope you do call out of work because I wouldn’t want you to miss it! 🙂

  4. Hmm, maybe a totally straight laced woman riding off into the distance on the back of a Harley with the bass hanging around her shoulder?

  5. Cindi

I would have a fancy home in the background, with
VIolet, her toddler and the musician pictured somehow
    looking radiantly happy!
    Thanks, Cindi

I’d have her in a lounge chair by the pool at her house. On one side, her husband would be standing with his back to her talking on the cell phone. Her little girl would be standing next to her, pulling on her arm. On her other side, would be the young bass player with his hand held out to her. If you wanted, the secondary characters could be standing around the pool in poses representing their relationship with her, but I think that would make the cover too busy.

  7. I don’t know , that’s a hard question. I like the idea of purple with musical notes. And maybe a man playing guitar not paying attention while a girl kisses another man in the background.

  8. Hey, Sheila…I’m having a devil of a time finding your Morning Meanderings today! I got the e-mail, read it, and went to comment, but it kept saying “page not found.”

Even when I clicked over from one of my links on the blogroll, it doesn’t show up!

Hmm…anyway, I hope you have a Good Hair Day!

    1. Hi Laurel – I was prepping it last night and hit publish instead of draft….. then drafted it. 🙂 That is why it hit peoples mailboxes last night but I am taking it live now 🙂

OMG…that book looks yummy and now…I want a cupcake…my poor husband is going to have to drive somewhere and find me one…

  10. Honestly, I love the cover, but I wouldn’t expect that story line with a cover like that. I would expect a cover with something more glitzy and Hollywould-ey.

  11. Anita Yancey

I would put a sexy woman with a toddler on the cover with a band pictured behind her.

  12. I think I would have a broken heart with the guitar bursting through it for the cover.

This sounds very interesting! My husband is a musician, and I spent a lot of time out on the road with him, so know the lifestyle well.

    Thanks for posting this!

I’m thinking this is a great cover except the background might be better darker like deep lavender to bring the book some notice. And maybe a single cupcake instead of a truffle might be great. But I do like this one cover a lot.

  14. I am disappointed they are not using this cover that is what caught my attention in the first place.

I think I would probably have a picture of a fancy house with palm trees all over and maybe a gate that has some rock and roll stuff on it.

  15. Benita G.

I’d picture the main character in a violet dress dancing; in the background a rock group playing music and the man on bass winking.

I would probably show a Christmas card (which always shows the perfect little family smiling and happy, right?) with the daughter and husband looking straight at the camera with huge smiles on their faces and the mother looking off side of the camera, with a wistful, sad expression.
    Thanks!

I would design a violet flower that a woman is picking one of the petals off. The petals could have the hollywood sign, musical stuff (for her husband), toys (for her kid), then on the petal she is picking off have there be a brass instrument.

  18. RobynL

I think I’d have the 2 adults and toddler in the background with a nice scene with violets in the garden and music notes floating around the cover.

  19. I would show a very pretty large living living room with Dot playing on the floor with a bass guitar in the corner while Violet is staring at the bass while sitting on the large sofa..?
