Bookies Year In Review Coming Soon

It is that time of year again!  Today I will be tallying up the results of our 2009 reads for next weeks Bookies In Review book club meeting.  Each year I like to put together a booklet highlighting each book we read, where we met, and put in any pictures or funny happenings.  These books have become keepsakes to me and I have for every year since we began in 2001.

Last month, each member was given the sheet that askes them (using the books we read ass a book club):

  • what their favorite book club read was in 2009
  • What was their least favorite book club read in 2009
  • Best male character in a book club book
  • Best female character in a book club book
  • Best new author we were introduced to in 2009
  • Best author overall in 2009
  • Favorite place to do a review
  • Favorite Bookie memory of all time

Our Books for 2009 were:

Sarah’s Key by Tatiana De Rosnay

Such a pretty Fat by Jen Lancaster

Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah

The Book Thief By Marcus Zusak

Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen

Walking In Circles Before Lying Down by Merill Markoe

Wednesday Sisters by Meg Waite Clayton

Pope Joan by Donna Woolfork Cross

A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty White

Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls

Home For The Holidays by Rebecca Kelly

The results will be in next Wednesday when I will feature a post of the Good, The Bad, and the moments not to be forgotten!

    1. Alexia – had our kids young they are grown and gone and my hubby keeps long hours – 5 am – 6 pm and in bed by 9. I have a lot of time to read and write:)

  1. Can’t wait to see which book the Bookies enjoyed the most; was it the same one that had the best discussion? We have had books we all loved but there wasn’t as much to talk about in them than some we didn’t like as much as a book.

    1. Lisa – I have the answer now but cant share it until I announce it next Tuesday evening at our meeting. 🙂

And you know – some of the best discussions come out of the books we liked the least…. its like we are fired up or something…LOL

We have had some really deep and wonderful discussions this year… I really am proud of our group.

    1. rhapsodyinbooks it is fun to see what we are reading now compared to what we read year one. We were so all the well known authors like Nora Roberts, John Grisham, Nicholas Sparks…. it is so cool to see us out with all these wonderful authors.

  2. Your book club sounds like it really is a lot of fun. I like doing the book clubs on line here but would love to have one that I could do in person with others who enjoy books with me, or even same books as me.

Looking forward to hearing your favorites.

    1. Melissa – just go for it. 🙂 I decided to do a book club and hung a sign up by the time clock at work with the book title, the when, and where. 2 people showed up. That was in 2001…. this year we currently have 18 active members.

All you need is a book. 🙂

  3. We are just starting a book club at our library. I’m looking for ideas and suggestions. We’ve only had one meeting and no one really knows everyone else. I still don’t have a good feel for the types of books they will be interested in. My intent is to introduce them to authors and genre they have not tried before. Only one has really tried a variety of books. We’ll see how things go.

    1. librarypat do you have a twitter account? You shoud go on there and ask for book club suggestions… there are a ton of book lovers on twitter that could give you lots of great choices . Also Google book club selections – you will find so many great choices.

Good luck! I would love to hear more about how this is going!

  4. I’m like Melissa, I wish there was a book club local to me. I love the online book clubs but after hearing what all your club does, I just want the fellowship of the group. I look forward to seeing your favorites of the year! 🙂

Hmmmm... what do you think?
