Morning Meanderings…

I haven’t had a morning post in days…..  I hate that.  I love connecting in the morning and sharing what is happening and then hearing from all of you.  It kind if my thing…

I actually started a post yesterday, hurrying through it as I knew the clock was ticking closer to the time I was suppose to be at the gym.  The words were not coming together… and frankly, they were boring.  I was bored with my own words that were suppose to be witty – and well, I tossed it in the “DELETE” pile and went to the gym.

So this morning, I still have nothing brilliant say but did want to check in and say although life has been busy – I am still here.  Last night I put a post up for Mrs. Claus Explains It All and later today will be the results of my first ever Horrid Henry book, Horrid Henry’s Christmas.

I have one more small item to pick up and my groceries for Christmas dinner but other than that I am done.  (The word done echos in my head like the Liberty Bell).  I think if I had a little energy I would be doing a happy dance as well, but that is going to have to wait.

How about you?  Are you done with waiting in lines, and clicking “purchase” on line?  Are the searches over the perfect gift?  AND (this is important!) if you are one of those people who have finished months ago and these past few weeks have mearly been Christmas specials on TV and good books by the fireplace….  I want…. I NEED… the secret to your success.  Share it.  I must know…. I want to be the person who shops early but it has yet to happen in my 42 years.

Have a wonderful day everyone!  My plans are minimal for the next few days…. we dont have a lot of family so it will be the three of us here and I will be reading and posting.  Stop in when you can, I would love to hear from you.  For those who are traveling and have a crazy weekend ahead – drive safe and Merry Christmas!

  1. Sorry Sheila, but I’m no help in this area. Every year I say “Next year I’m starting early” but I never do. Maybe next year is the year that changes. I can only hope!!!

    Merry Christmas!!

  2. Sheila-you need to be in my marriage-my family is on the East coast with a sick mum -I never make my husband come home for Christmas-it is freezing and he is an only child with his parents on the opposite coast. We celebrate Christmas after I return-so he gets the advantage of some extra days. Me on the other hand-spent all day Saturday and last week-baking Christmas treats and I am exhausted when I get home.

And then I get to go shopping for Christmas dinner when I arrive-I know what you mean-It is supposed to be fun but it is also quite hectic. I have a cheesecake in the oven as we speak.

    xoxo

    1. Esme reading this I have no right to complain. We do not have to travel – it is just us with no extended family. I stopped baking a couple years ago (mostly) when I discovered I had the biggest sweet tooth in the family and I ate pretty much everything I made…. yikes! 🙂

Now we will have a (singular) pie and a nice dinner.

  3. I am done finally, but just got done this past Sunday. I was very last minute this year. I usually am done by November but finances didn’t allow for that this year and instead I had to do a lot of it last minute. I can’t complain it wasn’t as awful as I thought it would be.

I’ll be offline for a couple days visiting family but I sure hope you have a peaceful and wonderful Christmas too.

  4. Even though I had my cards done early this year and some gifts bought, I still had to go shopping yesterday to finish up. Now everything is wrapped and under the tree. Tomorrow I will get the rest of the food bought and have a trip planned to the library. Need a good book to take on my road trip on the 26th.

    1. Oh Cindy you are good! I mailed my cards on Monday…. I used to be the person who had their cards in the mail the day after Thanksgiving…. ahhhh…. no more….. 🙂

Enjoy the weekend and pick a great book!

  5. We stopped this a long time ago. I couldn’t take it. It was a nightmare to shop. People are vicious this time of year and I was tired of buying into the commercialism during a religious holiday. It was going against my beliefs. We don’t do Christmas, not like regular people. This year will be the first time we’ve had traditional food, but that’s only because of Thanksgiving. The kids and I want a repeat.

Some people take to the holiday season like a duck to water. I never could. The kids never seemed to get the toys they wanted because of the high demand at this time of year, so we stopped letting it rule us and we took control of the situation.

Okay, I’ll stop before I sound even more like a freak…lol. But I will say that I enjoy the holidays now…the kids always have since they are the are the planning committee. 😉

    1. It really is a nightmare to shop J Kaye! I could tell you horror stories of my years at Wal-Mart and what I witnessed the day after Thanksgiving. I dont do black Friday anymore….. really ban it unless I click a button or two on line. 🙂

I like how you include the kids in the planning. With only the three of us I just told Justin this year (19) I would make whatever he wants…. no big traditions here…. just being together. 🙂

  6. I simplified my shopping a few years ago when I made the “ruling” that the kids (in my case, grandkids) were the only recipients.

The older ones (and they’re all older, except for Noah) always want Target gift cards. So that’s done. Now I just need to figure out what to get for Noah!

    1. That’s smart Laurel… I am sure things will change for us when we are Grand Kid mode but for now…. the insanity is entirely my fault. No one asks for anything but it is in my head that it must be wonderful and I tend to over achieve as in just about everything I do……

      Shheesh! 😉

  7. I feel ready for the holidays .. I go through bursts at the beginning of December where I do most of the shopping and then spend the rest of the month second-guessing things or adapting gifts for my Little One’s ever- changing tastes. Plus, I do most of my shopping online … I just adore Amazon. They make it so easy.

Hope you have a relaxing and wonderful holiday.

    1. Hi Jenners, I think next year I am going to go more on line than I have in the past. Hopefully, like Vicki said above – I can train myself to not wait until the last minute. 🙂 Enjoy your holiday as well 🙂

  8. I just finished wrapping gifts a few minutes ago. Nothing like waiting until the last minute to do things! I’m having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit this year but wrapping the gifts and seeing the smiles I know I’ll see on Friday made it all worth it and even cheered me up a bit! We’d done all the shopping a couple of weeks ago and it had all just been sitting there to wrap.

I think we might go to the movies on Friday. Not sure if we will see The Princess and Frog, the new Chipmunks movie, or Avatar. I’m leaning more towards Avatar but our 3 and 5 year olds would probably be scared. I’m thinking Chipmunks will win out!

Merry Christmas to you and yours. Happy New Year too! 🙂

    1. Hi Julie – I have one more to wrap…. my husbands. It is a laptop so I have been prepping it. Not sure yet if we are opening gifts tonight or tomorrow morning… without Brad here we are all goofed up.

On Friday we are going to the movie Sherlock Holmes. It starts tomorrow.

Merry Christmas to you as well and Happy New Year! 🙂

  9. I did the final buy yesterday and it was strangely not-crazy at the store I went to. Bummer for that retailer. We’re a small group of four this Christmas but are off to Florida on the 27th to meet up with my brother’s family for a few days so that will be nice.

  10. I am so not ready for Christmas this year. It will come whether I’m ready or not, so I’m not going to worry about it. I’m closer than I was a few days ago, so I’m happy.

I hope everyone has a Wonderful Christmas!
