Morning Meanderings

I have pulled Coffee Cup off the shelf at 5:45 am this morning.  Why?  Because I made a commitment to work out with a friend (do I use this term loosely because of the time we have committed to?) at 6:30 am at the YMCA.

On paper, this sounds good…. get up early – get it out of the way…. move on with my day and not have the pending workout hanging over my head.

In reality?  I am tired… unmotivated… and going to really not be happy if she is thinking the same thing and says forget this and doesn’t show up.

SO….  while I have a few minutes here for a second cup of coffee before I grab my work clothes and head out the door… I want to talk books.  Have you see this?

This is the set of all 8 of the Sookie Stackhouse books for $35.46 at Amazon.  I seen this last week and I keep looking at it.  I think it is a good deal… I only have the first on e in this series and believe I paid at least $8 for it.  It still sits on my shelf unread… but I do find comfort in the fact that I can pick it up and read it any time I want.

They seem to have such a following and so many people have read them and are loving them.

So have you read any of these? Are they good?

I have to run…. later on there is of course a review… and if I can find some time later – I have a few giveaways I need to post as well!

  1. I haven’t read any of them although I do have the first one sitting here in a pile somewhere. I was lured by a boxed set on Amazon recently myself. While doing my Christmas shopping the full-color boxed set of the first five Little House books called my name and I just had to answer.

Good luck with the workout. It’s so cold out there I don’t even want to go to work.

    1. Oh Bibliomom… The Little House set speaks to me too…. LOL I had that Little House on The Prairie set as I was growing up and then I sold it at a garage sale when I got married…. wish I had it back!

  2. I know these books have lots of followers but I found them as a bit of let down. They didn’t suit my taste . If you like the Vampire themed book s,you will probably like them , I would say u should go ahead and buy the set 🙂

  3. I used to go to the gym at 6 in the morning. I wonder where I got all this motivation from because nowadays nothing on earth would force me to do it.

    1. Lilly – it was hard to get moving but I am glad I did…. it actually put me in the office a bit earlier than usual which is nice as I usually am scrambling to get their on time and that doesnt look real good when you are the manager….LOL

  4. I know what you mean about workouts. I always go on my bike for an hour in the evening, but I always feel it is like a huge chore sitting on my shoulders waiting to happen. I always feel good after completing it, it is just the actual starting it that I have trouble with.

I read the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series and loved it. I have heard the programme is not as good, but as I haven’t watched it I can’t really comment.

    1. Vivienne, I just cant do it in the evenings. i run so hard all day that my evenings are my sanctuary…. a little blog surfing, a little reading, a little Gilmore Girls… I am a creature of habit! 🙂

I havent seen any of the shows either so I have no idea… I am going solely on blog talk…

  5. I’ve been hearing about Sookie, and now I must investigate! As for workouts, I am totally where you are in terms of feeling it’s like something hanging over my head until I do it.

Which reminds me…hmm, do I do it this morning, or later? LOL

  6. Ugh early morning workouts and I do not go well together. I drag tail in the morning and sure they’d probably get me going but I have yet to find some hidden energy pool that would get me to a gym that early.

I’ve read the first Sookie book and loved it! I’ve heard great things about the series.

  7. 6:30 workout in the winter cold??-I am in sunny Cal and it is 7:15 and I am debating going outside-but you are correct in getting it done first thing-you feel better-something about pumping the blood through your system.
I have not read any of the Sookie books but they are on my wish list and TBR-the have caught my eye.

    1. Esme…mmm hmmm…. 10 below zero this morning and I crawl into my cold car and make my way to the gym….. what a nut case! 🙂

I only live 5 minutes away so that is nice.

  8. I’ve been a fan of the Southern Vampire books for some time now. I’ve read them all (well, except #9 which is at home waiting for me), and I LOVE them. As with any long-running series, some aren’t as great as others, but I love all the characters so I always enjoy the books.

For those who are fans of the show, don’t expect the books to be the same. The show is much darker (and weirder) than the books.

    So… did you go workout?

    1. Jody you are inspiring me to go for it and buy the set. (I have this guilt thing going on as it is Christmas and it is not about me and I certainly dont need one more thing to read…. and…. well you get the point 🙂

      1. One of my personal Christmas traditions is that amongst all the gifts I buy for other people, I get to buy myself something fun that I’ve been wanting too. Just a way I try and make the holiday shopping a little more bearable. So you can just call this your personal Christmas gift!

Good for you for going and working out. I need to get off my butt and do the same.

  9. Honestly, I like TRUE BLOOD better. That said, I like reading the books before watching the show. This has been the first time that I’ve been able to do both. Usually I can’t handle repeats. The books & show are different enough that both are engaging. I need to catch up prior to season three.

    1. J Kaye – really? I havent seen True Blood yet. Iike that you read the books first… True Blood is HBO right? I had no idea it was on its third season… wow….

I guess that means they are rentable! 🙂

  10. I get the feeling this very set will be under the tree for me–now I don’t feel like the only one left who hasn’t read them!

  11. I’ve only read the first one so far and while I enjoyed it I haven’t made time to move on to the rest of them. Getting that set would defiently get me going in the right direction.

  12. I have seen this but I own the first five. Loved them, read all that were published up to that time. Never went back to the series. I joined a Sookie Stackhouse challenge but don’t know where my books are and now I’m not really all that interested in reading them again. Shrug ~ maybe later.
