Morning Meanderings….

a big improvement7 a.m. here in Minnesota and it is DARK.  Spooky dark.  The change in the seasons happened quickly and we went from a couple weeks of really beautiful 80 degree weather to the now wake up to 40 degrees and top out your day at 53 degrees.  Yup… to me, that’s the downside of where I live.

However – the cold weather does keep me inside a lot more and my reading time does increase.  Get a good major snow storm and I can have my own personal snow day and cuddle in a thick soft blanket surrounded by a couple great reads and a never ending pot of coffee, tea, or cocoa.

And fall also brings out the game board addict in me.  I love board games.  In fact we have a whole double wide closet dedicated to board games.  Balderdash and Beyond Balderdash, Scruples, Cribbage, Pictionary, puzzles, Blurt, I think currently we have about 5 different versions of monopoly (Vikings monopoly, Disney monopoly, millennium monopoly, Star Wars monopoly…) and more.

Yesterday I was reading on a bookish website (I know… how different for me!) and discovered this little gem:

bookopolyI know, right?  How super cool is that?  Bookopoly is available at Amazon.  They also had banned book bracelets and Literati Challenge for the wordies out there!

How about you… any fall favorite things?  How about a favorite board game?

  1. Oh that is so cool! It’s the same where we live. it’s 6:30 am and dark as could be outside. I think were hitting mid 60’s but that won’t last long. I think our only real difference it we wont get the snow like you do only the constant falling of the rain for the next 8 months. =) Okay maybe not constant but some days sure feels that way heh.

    1. I get a little bummed out as I know what is next…. winter and I am so not a fan. 😦

Oh well, there is Honduras to look forward to at the end of this month and it should be warm there…. 🙂

  2. I know what you mean about the dark. I couldn’t see a thing when I wheeled the garbage and recylcing down earlier this week.

    1. rhapsodyinbooks I would love that! The kids used to play the board games with me but they are grown and gone now… they pretty much just sit as a reminder to the past fun. 🙂

  3. I wouldn’t necessarily want the weather to be COLD right now, but COOLER is a blessing. It’s been in the eighties the last couple of days, which is wonderful. I feel energized!

It will be cold soon, though not as cold as you get. I recall one of our colder winters, when the temps dropped to the thirties regularly.

I love Backgammon and Monopoly and Scrabble.

I haven’t played Backgammon in awhile, but awhile back, I ordered a really nice set from Amazon, since my old one had fallen apart. I think I’ll get it out this weekend!

Love the image of curling up in a chair with a “neverending” pot of coffee, tea or cocoa!

    1. Esme – I am going to send out questions next week about the book… answer them as you finish and then email back. On the 26th we will go live with our post s- and for those who have already reviewed this book they can add their link as well.

I havent started it yet – but I am excited to!

  4. I don’t like getting up before light. Funny thing is that I don’t mind staying up until the wee hours of the morning…lol!

Thanks for the heads-up about Bookopoly! Neat!

  5. I love the winter. It’s one of the reason I miss MN. Watching the snows come in off Lake Superior is beautiful. Then there is snowmobiling, ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowmen, snowforts, and all the other wonderful things.

As to boardgames, my favorites are Scrabble, Trivia Pursuit, Dominoes, Clue, Monopoly, Battleship, and Vampire Hunter.

  6. I love fall weather but here in Georgia, it just doesn’t get cold enough for me (I’m from IL originally). We rarely, if ever, get any snow and it really depresses me sometimes!! 🙂

Thanks for featuring this cool game. I’ve added it to my wishlist!! I love board games, especially those that are word associated. My family loves to play board and card games so this will be a great addition!!

  7. The weather has been just the same here in Maine. In the 80s a few weeks ago, then it changed over night & now it’s in the 50s. SAD!

  8. Suddenly dark in the mornings has been a very bad thing at my house. So hard to get everyone up and moving. But let’s not talk snow storms just yet!

  9. I too appreciate a good board game, but I never really got to play them very much as a kid. My family wasn’t as into it as I was so I usually either played by myself (not fun!) or didn’t play at all.

  10. Oh, how fun!

My favorite group game is Apples to Apples. If you haven’t heard of it, the idea is very simple. Each person has a hand of cards, each with one noun– a person, place or thing. One person picks a card with a descriptive word on it, and everyone else has to decide which of the cards they are playing best fits that word. The judge can use ANY criteria they like, leading to some interesting play.

Anyway, we played this for a book club social event, and I made custom cards for each book and author we’d read, and mixed them in with the usual ones. It was a great evening– we should do it again!

    1. Hi Laura – I am interested in knowing how you made the cards. Did you laminate them? I love the idea and we always have a get together for Christmas for our book club. I would love to do that with the added book cards! What a great idea!

        1. Laura thank you! That is even cooler yet! I am so looking into this! I want to do something special this year for our get together as our December meeting is 100th meeting since we began in 2001. I am really excited about this!

  11. One of my favorite board games is Scrabble. I also love, love Scene It. I love trivia games in general.

I’ve started waking up in the dark (around 6:30) and I was so sad. The dark makes it soooo hard to get up in the morning, plus being cold…ugh.

    1. Hi Tracie, yeah – Scene It! We have quite a few of those – movies, tv, and I think we even have Harry Potter Scene it…. cause thats how we roll! Ha ha!
I hear you about the dark… not fair getting up when it is still dark!

Hmmmm... what do you think?
