I am excited to announce a great historical fiction novel giveaway! (One of my current favorite genres!) Thank to Valerie at Hachette Book Group I can have up to 5 of these wonderful books to give away here! So I will offer one book giveaway for every 10 comments here between now and October 18. That means if we can get 50+ comments here – we will give away all 5 books! (I cant wait to get my review copy of this book!)
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
Breathtakingly suspenseful and beautifully written, The Historian is the story of a young woman plunged into a labyrinth where the secrets of her family’s past connect to an inconceivable evil: the dark fifteenth-century reign of Vlad the Impaler and a time-defying pact that may have kept his awful work alive through the ages. The search for the truth becomes an adventure of monumental proportions, taking us from monasteries and dusty libraries to the capitals of Eastern Europe – in a feat of storytelling so rich, so hypnotic, so exciting that it has enthralled readers around the world.
“Never was a ghost story so casually erudite, nor a historical travelogue such gripping entertainment.” —New York Magazine
“Impossible to resist. . . . Kostova blends fact and fantasy to remind us that the original Dracula legend is rooted in monstrous acts of unblinking evil.” —Miami Herald
“A richly told story about family and the dark side of human nature. . . . This cry of the heart will appeal to readers beyond those who are drawn by a fascination with the legend of Dracula.” —Chicago Tribune
“Genuinely terrifying.” —Boston Globe

I would love to be a part of this giveaway!
Sounds like a great read- count me in:) Thanks!
Great question! Hmmmm…if I were plunged into a book and had to live the story in order to get out which book would I choose? That’s a tough one. Would probably wind up as mincemeat if I chose an urban fantasy or horror novel, so how about a romance where I got to fall in love with a smoking hot man? *L*
Wait…I’ve got it! Jude Deveraux’s The Summerhouse! Always wanted to go back in time, but not forever so the two week period would be perfect!
That is one of my all time favorite books! Did you read Return to Summerhouse? I think I would like to wind up in that one!
do not enter me-I loved this book.
PS if you like this you will probably enjoy Shadow of the Wind.
Oh thanks Esme, I will ahve to chat with you about that one! My copy of this book is not here yet…. but I cant wait
Ooooh, great giveaway! I’ve read this book. Do you know she’s written another one?
I think I’d like to get through The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder. It’s my favorite of the whole series, one I’ve re-read more than the rest. Thanks for the great giveaway, it looks great!
I’m such an Austen addict, I would love to live through Pride and Prejudice–as Elizabeth Bennet of course.
This book sounds interesting. I’ve been thinking about getting a copy of it to try, but just haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
I’ve been dying to read this! Please enter me.
I commented on today’s Monday Meandering–9/28!
Thanks.
Now that is a great question. I think I would want to be Lizzy Bennett in Pride and Prejudice.
Great choice! She would be a wonderful person to be through the entire book!
Can’t decide. But since the new twilght movie is coming out soon, I’d be more than happy to be Bella. Ha ha.
If I was plunged into a book and had to actually walk through and live the story all the way to the end to get out, it would be the book “Cinderella.” I am still waiting for that handsome prince to come and rescue me.
thank you,
Christine

Great question — I, too, would like to be Elizabeth Benett in P & P, ONLY if that young Colin Firth was Mr. Darcy. I wish I was clever and witty like her, but alas and woe, I’m not. Hmmm . . . Those push up necklines could really help out, too 🙂
I love historical novels, but when I see older time periods in the movies with all those bulky dresses and western women trudging along in the dirt with their long dresses (not to mention the smelly men), there was a reason I wasn’t born back then!
HI Kim – Yes I would love to be the strong willed and feisty Elizabeth Bennett… good pick!
I blogged about your contest here:

Good question. I think I’d like to be someone like Goldy Schulz in Diane Mott Davidson’s mysteries — making food and solving crimes!
What a question…?! And how do I just pick one character and book?! So many characters for so many different reasons… Hmmm…
Jean M. Auel’s ‘Ayla’ in her Earth’s Children Series for the sheer adventure of it all; Jane Austen’s ‘Elizabeth Bennett’ from Pride and Prejudice for the pure drama and romance; Laura Ingalls Wilder in her classic American novels of pioneer life because I simply love her and she is a childhood favourite; etc. etc. etc.
Please accept this as my entry. Thank you!

Please enter me, I’d love to win The Historian! Thank you so much ~
Great question…I’m reading a book about EVE: the first woman…so I would like to walk in her footsteps for awhile…

I would pick any book of Janet Evanovich. They are very light-hearted.
To Kill A Mockingbird
It would be any one of the Harry Potter books – they were so fun! Thanks!
