Me and My Reading Habits…

Here is the question :   Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?

I really hate to write in my books.  I love to keep them in wonderful condition and cringe when I find ink or highlighter marks in books.  I am a post it note Queen – and use them for all keeping track of discussion topics for book club, notes for reviews, etc…

Oddly, the one exception to this rule is I write in my BibleI like to capture words in sermons that I find meaningful to the scripture I used to keep a separate notebook for these notes but found it much more likely that I wuld put it to use if it was actually in the Bible.  I love to now open up my Bible after years of doing this and see notes that I made on scriptures.

  1. Way cool! I’ll admit that I used to “dogear” pages, but then I decided that I would stop. And now I use my bookmarks to hold my place.

But as for marking in books…NEVER! Except in college textbooks, with a highlighter pen.

I like your post-it idea for making notations…that would be helpful for reviews, for sure!

    Great slide!!

  2. I have post-it notes everywhere in my book as well. LOL! Everyone laughs at me, but I like to remember where things happen at. I do discussions on these books and like to refere back to certain points so I mark them. Although, I do like the arrow idea. I may have to steal that idea.

I started with just the arrows and it wasn’t enough room to write so know I am with the post-its. They stick out the sides of my book so I can find them faster and easier.

I even use post-its when I am reading for a relaxed read, so I can note thoughts for when I do my reviews now.

Glad to hear there are more of us out there than thought!

  3. Wow, so organized. I always keep a healthy supply of post its, but I still can’t help but to write in my books, especially when it’s for school.

  4. Ditto on the post its. I buy the larger, lined ones and put them in the back of the book I am reading to jot down things I want to remember.

  5. For some reason it won’t let me view your slide, but I can only imagine! I haven’t used post its previously, but since I have started writing reviews I can see where it might be helpful. Maybe I will buy those lined post its and give it a try.

  6. I love, love, LOVE your slides! They really add a special, personal touch to your posts.

I also hate writing in books, unless they’re textbooks, but even then, I just highlight. Post-It notes are the way to go!!

  7. Yeah, but then the post-its get in the way of the words in the book, and you have to move them to read the book! And then they take off the ink from the letters and… I’m over-thinking this, aren’t I? 😉
