Morning Meandering…

It feels like fall here in Central Minnesota this morning.  Last night was so warm I was popping a big improvementwindows open just to sleep but this morning the air has turned crisp and I woke up chilled, running around closing those same windows.

Ahhhh…. Minnesota.

I let the dogs out and the chill came in from the deck.  Yesterday started a drastic drop of the acorns.  We have a large oak tree built into our deck.  We actually built the deck around the tree as I love trees and could not see sacrificing it just because we wanted a bigger deck.  All day yesterday I could hear the acorns thumping as they bounced off the wood and this morning the deck is covered.  Al tells me that is a sign of a cold winter.  Oh man… I hope not.

Fall means things should (I hope) slow down a bit.  The evenings will be cooler and while I haven’t had much time for hanging outside this year anyway, I will be drawn to my cozy reading chair more often… visions of the Challenges that I need to work on – Random reading, Jane Austen, Harry Potter…. dance in my head.

I guess I am saying that this morning I meandered…. to my deck.

Later today I am posting my 100th book review.  100!  Watch for that because if you know me – moments like this do not go by uncelebrated… oh yeah – there will be a giveaway!

  1. Your deck, covered with acorns, sounds beautiful! I love fall, anyway…my favorite time of the year. We don’t have a very long one, and these days, our only indication that fall might be approaching is the temperature dropping into the low nineties, or maybe even edging toward the eighties!

  2. I love the changing of the seasons. I can’t say I love the 9 months of rain we are in for but the colors are amazing come the next couple of months.

  3. Congrats! That’s awesome! 100 reviews!

Here in South Dakota life is crazy as well. Yesterday I was laying out on the campus green with a book and blanket soaking up the sun (even got a little sun burnt!). This morning I woke up angry bouts of the thunder.

    Happy Tuesday!

  4. Sounds so nice. I’ve been sitting on my deck or my tree, but soon I will also be driven, gladly, to my comfy chair. 🙂

  5. So jealous. I remember when we had a deck, and real trees, and acorns! Thanks for sharing the pictures – brings back lovely memories of growing living things! (I’m in the Sonoran desert now….)

  6. Anytime I miss MN I come to your blog and I miss it even more. We have had tons of rain since last night and quite a few streets in Wichtia were closed this morning due to flooding. Supposed to last through tomorrow so I’m excited. I love rain!

  7. Autumn is my favorite season! I’m sure it is beautiful there. I do miss all the acreage of trees I grew up around on a small MT farm, BUT I LOVE Las Vegas winters!!!! I’ll be thinking of you come about January — or maybe you should be thinking of me 🙂 Last year we had all four seasons — and again, so far, this year.

  8. I can’t wait to spend the fall with Jane Austen, too! 🙂 Lots of great challenges to finish before the end of the year. I’d gotten a little lax about them, but now we’re getting into crunch time. I need to buckle down! 🙂

  9. I love watching the seasons change – and the weather along with it. It’s so simple yet so beautiful and wonderful, how can we not watch in awe? I have a lot of challenges to get working on as well. I can’t wait for summer to end and fall to officially begin. There’s something about fall and winter that begs you to stay curled up inside with a good book.
