The Lost Dog by Michelle de Kretser – Giveaway!

This giveaway is closed – winners were announced on September 9.  Thank you!

Once again Valerie at Hachette Book Group has provided me with a great giveaway!  Readers, you have an opportunity here to win one of five copies of this book.   (Thank you Valerie!)

Book Information

Tom Loxley, an Indian-Australian professor, is less concerned with finishing his book on Henry James than with finding his dog, who is lost in the Australian bush.

Joining his daily hunt is Nelly Zhang, an artist whose husband disappeared mysteriously years before Tom met her. Although Nelly helps him search for his beloved pet, Tom isn’t sure if he should trust this new friend.

Tom has preoccupations other than his book and Nelly and his missing dog, mainly concerning his mother, who is suffering from the various indignities of old age. He is constantly drawn from the cerebral to the primitive–by his mother’s infirmities, as well as by Nelly’s attractions. THE LOST DOG makes brilliant use of the conventions of suspense and atmosphere while leading us to see anew the ever-present conflicts between our bodies and our minds, the present and the past, the primal and the civilized.

T A Z !
T A Z !

This is Taz (or Tazmon Dickens). He is currently 4 months old and a long haired Chihuahua. He is full of fun, loves to chase tennis balls and is trained to potty on command, sit,
wait, come, and forgets all of the above when he is “Busy” with
something that has caught his attention. He has brought many smiles and
kisses to my husband and I.

  1. Your dogs are adorable … maybe when I have “empty nest” syndrome, I’ll get one of these dogs! And my favorite pet was my childhood dog Greta — she was a fierce protector and a patient dog who always watched out for us kids.

  2. It’s hard to pick between my 2 kitties. Newton, a 2 year old black male who is a total momma’s boy. And Lucy, my sweet little girl, who is sadly no longer with us. She had a hard life before we adopted her, and we only had her for 8 months before she died. She was a dilute calico and was always up for cuddling.

  3. Well, my favorite pet is our 7 year old Chihuahua named Dottie. She is a wonderful dog, calm, easy going, just wants to sleep in your lap. However, her new little 4 month old brother Taz is just the opposite and is driving her crazy at the moment. !

  4. My favorite pet is my adorable, sweet, small mix named Bogie. A great companion. Thanks for this lovely giveaway.

  5. My favorite pet was Oreo. I got Oreo when I was 7 years old and he lived to be 20 years old. He was a black and white cat and looked like an oreo cookie. We had a lot of fun together.

  6. I have a little shih tzu, she is 10 years old, unfortunately, my angel has a tumor on her heart
    and is doing okay, but!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a follower and would love to win this book.

  7. Sorry, you will have to delete my comment, I missed the U.S. only comment.
I will more carefully next time.

  8. I have a Jack Russell who is my baby!!! She is 8yrs old and is not your ordinary JR. in that she is not hyper at all. She is more like a cat, lounging around, until you say “Toy” or point at her. She does not like to be pointed at….grrrr! She also loves chasing squirrels.

Her name is Patches and I love her this much.

  9. I’d love to be entered to win this book. I just can’t pick my favorite pet… I love them all so much! So here is a shout out to all my pets (past and present) Sam, Sara, and Tess.

I also follow you through google reader.

  10. I’ve had lots of cats and if I had to pick just one favorite, it would be hard. But I’ve only had one dog, and his name was Max — a beautiful black lab that was abandoned outside the store where I worked. He was about 4 months old. I kept him for around 6 weeks, but he really needed a different kind of owner. I wish I could have kept him, but I did find him a much better home with some very energetic kids!

I’d love to read this book — thanks for the chance to win a copy!

  11. I see Taz is still there. I guess everyone just loves him so much, they don’t want to look at another pet. Of course, I could send you a picture of Dottie or my son’s two pit bulls that sleep on top of each other!!

  12. Hello
I promised to send some pics of my Sasha but she has been really sick.We took her to the vet and initially the vet thought it was an intestinal infection. Then we took her back again because she can’t bark so now it looks like she actually has a throat infection. But to cut a long story short she is better and ate tonight for the first time.I want her to get totally well before we take some pics so bear with me.I am really looking forward to showing her off.AND the vet confirmed finally that Sasha is a husky/staffie mix.

  13. I haven’t had many pets… I had two gold fish once which were very entertaining, Rob Roy and William Wallace… They committed suicide by jumping out of their fish bowl one day while I was at school. It was very sad.

Please accept this as my entry into the above. Thank you!

  14. My favorite pet was the first dog that was all mine. I got her from the Humane Society when I was a freshman in college in 1989. I bought her with my own money. She was so tiny, only 2.5 lbs.. I named her Kayley Rae (long before Kayley was a popular name). She was feisty and totally rotten.

  15. My four legged daughter is Chloe, the 4 1/2 lb. Maltese. I never knew an animal could love someone sooo much! (me:) ) but also the other way around!

  16. My baby, my little hammy. I have a hamster called Little Punk. So cute. Sleeps all the time. But she is just so cute and comforting.

  17. My favorite pet is my current dog, we adopted him a few years ago and he is the best. He’s always so happy to see me, he really makes me smile.
