Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful night and now here we are on January 1st 2015. YAY to a new year!!!
This is the second annual First Book Of The Year Meme where I have offered book lovers around the world to send in a pic of themselves with the first book they will be reading this New Year. For myself, that first book has always been a big deal… a book I have been wanting to read for a while, sometimes it is a comforting re-read… whatever.
The past few days my email has been a treasure of fellow readers sending in that first book. It is always exciting to see what everyone chooses as their first read, and it is fun to see people from all over the world join in.
Here are this years participants:
There they are! If you see me in the bottom left corner, I have been so eager to read Stations Eleven after hearing all the great reviews of it. I will be in my cozy chair today digging into this one. There are many great titles here and thank you to all the book lovers who sent in a picture! I seriously tear up when I see how many get behind this idea.

Happy New Year! Great photo collage, and what a fun idea!
Thanks Laurie! I started it last year and it was so fun to see what everyone was starting the new year with in books 🙂
Thanks for doing this again Sheila! And the collages look great. I hope you enjoy your first book of the year!
Thanks for joining in again 🙂 I love doing it and seeing everyone reading 🙂
Fantastic.
I think I was as excited about this post as about the 1st read of the year 😉
Well Done!
and HapPiest New Year Wishes to everyone !
So cool you were excited too! 😀
Happy new year! My first book of the year will be Americanah. I loved Station Eleven, hope you do too!
I am so excited about the book 😀
Happy New Year!!! We have the same Happy New Year image. 🙂 Great minds work together.
I want to read Station Eleven too. ENJOY!!
Happy New Year!! Love this post and idea.
Elizabeth
LOL! it is because we have such good taste Elizabeth! 😀
We certainly do have good taste. 🙂
Happy New Year Sheila!!! Thanks again for opening this up to us! It’s so fun to see what everyone decides to read as their first book of the new year. Like you, I decided to pick something I’ve been wanting to read for a while now – even though I have a ton of review books waiting to be read. I’m reading The Violets of March by Sarah Jio – only my second book by her and so far it’s very good!
I wanted to list all of the titles but it just got to be soooo much work 🙂 Next year I will do a spreadsheet and check people in as their pics come in. It is a fun project 😀
Oooh, I’ve heard some great things about Station Eleven too, can’t wait to hear your thoughts! Happy New Year!
I have been so excited to crack that spine (said like, “MOVE THAT BUS!”)… ok… anyway, yeah! 😀
What a comfort to know that I’m not the only one who thinks the first book of the year is a big deal! Thank you! My first book of the year is “Skinwalkers” by Tony Hillerman. It took some time to sort through over 2500 books (974 unread) to decide, but I did it and am looking forward to reading it.
It is! For years (as long as I can remember) even pre-blogging, the first book of the year always had to be a special one. 😀
The photo collages turned out great! But you forgot to include me in your list of names!
I am just finished my own post now – thanks for hosting this – always fun!
Sue
Book By Book
Thanks Sue for letting me know, I will fix it now… it is a lot to keep track of! 😀 I pulled the list off the sign up form, I must have missed you this morning. 😀 Happy New Year!!!
You missed mine too. I sent you my pic in an email .
I will look for it Jackie, I remember you sending it… I saved them all in the same file… hmmmm…. Looking now 🙂
Happy New Year! Great collage…and I was so excited about this that I actually stayed up past midnight this year…LOL.
Enjoy your book…and your upcoming trip.
YAY Laurel! I have done that in the past but this year I did not start the book until the 1st 😀
Great collage. So enjoyed looking at all the other Bookies to check out their reading selection. Thanks for hosting this fun meme. Happy Reading in 2015!
Thanks 😀 Happy New Year!
Great idea–sorry I missed participating somehow. All the ladies look so happy and excited with their new reads–yay for them and for you, for doing this. Ok, next year I’ll get in on this action. My first book of the year is The Storied Life of AJ Fikry. Everyone, enjoy your books!
Its a fun meme! Join us next year 😀 You picked a great first book!
I’ve heard really good things about Station Eleven. Have a happy and blessed 2015!
Thanks, you too Christina!
I can only imagine all the work this has been for you, no doubt sitting cross eyed at your computer for hours. Thanks, it’s a wonderful idea. Happy New Year.
LOL, I really have… I hate it when I miss pics or blogs, as I clearly have done with this one. A lot of pics came in this week 😀
Yay, on this official launch!
Yup! Our day is here!
Thank you for doing this! I loved participating!
Thanks for being a part of it 😀
Sheila, yes I could imagine you would miss some out with so many. Never mind we catch up with them on the Linky. I think you may have put my link in – someone did, which I appreciate (I did it again, not realising but doesn’t matter!) We might be a day ahead here but I always feel a day behind, because I am asleep in bed when your day starts!
LOL right? Next year I think I will do a spreadsheet and check people in as the pics come in – name, bog, and book title… 😀 I put all links in of the blogs I follow and had received their emails this morning while I was working on the post 😀
I will be writing a post later. Shopping trip plan first. I don’t understand chow the line works. I haven’t taken the picture of my first book.

Wow, WHAT a turn out, Sheila! I’ve felt sick/yucky all day from a food hangover (I don’t drink lol) so haven’t been able to do too much, but I’m looking forward to checking out all the links! There are SO many different books and readers 😀 😀 😀
