Happy New Year: Reading Around The World 2015

63

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope everyone had a wonderful night and now here we are on January 1st 2015.  YAY to a new year!!!

This is the second annual First Book Of The Year Meme where I have offered book lovers around the world to send in a pic of themselves with the first book they will be reading this New Year.  For myself, that first book has always been a big deal… a book I have been wanting to read for a while, sometimes it is a comforting re-read… whatever.

The past few days my email has been a treasure of fellow readers sending in that first book.  It is always exciting to see what everyone chooses as their first read, and it is fun to see people from all over the world join in.

Here are this years participants:

There they are!  If you see me in the bottom left corner, I have been so eager to read Stations Eleven after hearing all the great reviews of it.  I will be in my cozy chair today digging into this one.  There are many great titles here and thank you to all the book lovers who sent in a picture!  I seriously tear up when I see how many get behind this idea.

  1. Happy New Year Sheila!!! Thanks again for opening this up to us! It’s so fun to see what everyone decides to read as their first book of the new year. Like you, I decided to pick something I’ve been wanting to read for a while now – even though I have a ton of review books waiting to be read. I’m reading The Violets of March by Sarah Jio – only my second book by her and so far it’s very good!

  2. What a comfort to know that I’m not the only one who thinks the first book of the year is a big deal! Thank you! My first book of the year is “Skinwalkers” by Tony Hillerman. It took some time to sort through over 2500 books (974 unread) to decide, but I did it and am looking forward to reading it.

  3. Great collage. So enjoyed looking at all the other Bookies to check out their reading selection. Thanks for hosting this fun meme. Happy Reading in 2015!

  4. Great idea–sorry I missed participating somehow. All the ladies look so happy and excited with their new reads–yay for them and for you, for doing this. Ok, next year I’ll get in on this action. My first book of the year is The Storied Life of AJ Fikry. Everyone, enjoy your books!

  5. I can only imagine all the work this has been for you, no doubt sitting cross eyed at your computer for hours. Thanks, it’s a wonderful idea. Happy New Year.

  6. Sheila, yes I could imagine you would miss some out with so many. Never mind we catch up with them on the Linky. I think you may have put my link in – someone did, which I appreciate (I did it again, not realising but doesn’t matter!) We might be a day ahead here but I always feel a day behind, because I am asleep in bed when your day starts!

    1. LOL right? Next year I think I will do a spreadsheet and check people in as the pics come in – name, bog, and book title… 😀 I put all links in of the blogs I follow and had received their emails this morning while I was working on the post 😀

  7. a very happy new year to you friend! thank you for the hard work you put into this meme ~ it’s got to take quite a bit of time to put all these photos into collages ~ you rock Sheila! and what a fantastic decision for your first book of the year! I keep wanting to read it but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Looking forward to your thoughts on this one! Happy New Year Sheila!

  8. Great montage Sheila. Looks like you had great participation. Thanks for hosting this and putting in the work. I am enjoying looking at what others have picked for their first read. I do think I will add Station Eleven to my library. Happy New Year from me too. (I don’t think my name made the list.)

  9. Sheila, thank you for hosting this wonderful meme! I have just added my link to your Mister Linky. Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year!

  10. Thanks for hosting this fun kickstart to the New Year Sheila, I love that it gets me all excited for my first read. And I love being able to put faces to names, lots of work for you, pulling it all together but … such fun! Thanks muchly 🙂

  11. Wow, WHAT a turn out, Sheila! I’ve felt sick/yucky all day from a food hangover (I don’t drink lol) so haven’t been able to do too much, but I’m looking forward to checking out all the links! There are SO many different books and readers 😀 😀 😀

  12. Happy New Year, Sheila! I wanted to send a thank you your way for all the work you’ve done for this great meme! It get’s me motivated to start a new year of reading! And I love seeing everyone’s photo’s too!

  13. Some great books have been picked. Stations Eleven is on my to read list so will be interested in seeing what you think. Happy new year. Emma x

  14. Happy New Year! I really look forward to this each year and put a lot of thought into my very first book of the year. ❤ Thank you for doing this! Everyone looks fabulous! 🙂

Hmmmm... what do you think?
