Good morning! Saturday morning here and I am enjoying my coffee this morning and contemplating my day. We are due for rain today… but currently the skies look they could go either way.
Last weekend my college son and I took a trip up North to our cabin, I thought for Saturday Snapshots (Hi Alyce!) I would give you a few pics from that trip…

and just for another little twist of “only in Minnesota”, my friend Heidi and I were hitting a few garage sales yesterday and on our way back from one on a side road, we seen this in the road in front of us:

So a full week of fun events AND my best purchase of the day yesterday was this awesome patio set for $55.00:

Ok…. now you know too much about me….LOL. For more pics from around the world… stop over to Alyce’s at At Home With Books and check out Saturday Snapshots.

Ha ha, love the animal conflab in the road. I wonder what they were discussing. That’s a really cool bridge!
Isnt that funny? We couldnt believe it – they didnt look like they had escaped from anywhere, just doing what they do…. strolling down the road. 😀
The bridge was really cool and we had never seen it lift before to allow a ship through go that was cool too.
Wait, wait, wait…I’ve been there! I saw that first picture of that pier-ish thing, and said, “I think I have a picture of that too!” We went to Duluth last summer when we were in Wisconsin and I have pictures of that bridge (in action) as well. 😀
Amanda that is so cool! You passed right through my world! 😛 I took those pictures setting on the upper deck of Grandma’s Restaurant, right off the pier.
I’ve never seen a bridge like that! I’m not sure I’ve seen a horse and cow in the middle of the road, but we do see geese quite often these days. Have a great weekend, Sheila!
Thanks Kathy! Enjoy your weekend too!
A patio set for $55!!!! That’s an awesome price!!! I’ve been looking at a few here and the prices are exorbitant – $300 and up. The local shops complain about their shipping and import duties for their high mark-ups but I don’t think that’s the whole story!
The horse and cow look like they’re good friends!
It was cool about the horse and cow – the horse walked on to the road first, then waited for his friend, the cow. 😀
You live in beautiful country! I can picture that sock hop, too, and Finland (and that pizza place) remind me of the small village in the foothills where I lived for thirteen years.
Great patio set!
Here’s MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST
LOL… yeah, it was pretty…. cheesy fun. We were probably 2 of 15 in the restaurant…. we do have it pretty beautiful around here Laurel. I know there are many places in the world where you can not drive beyond cell phone coverage or ever get to a quiet place… I am very thankful I can do both 😀
$55.00 is unbelievable — enjoy. I need you to be my bargain shopper. Those cows were so cute…LOL
LOL – if it wasn’t for Heidi I would have never gone to that sale…. it wasn’t on our list and I usually only go to first day sales.
OMG that is so cute with the horse and the cow! It looks like they are great friends!
Isnt that crazy Jill? 😀
OK, so I’m from WI and those pictures are SO midwestern-ish! The meandering animals remind me of when our animals would get out – always SUCH a panic moment for us and when we found them, they’d be looking at us like, “what’s up?” Always wonder where they think they’re going. Thanks for sharing this trip down memory lane!
LOL “Whats Up” is exactly what they look like! 😀
Whoa! Very cool bridge! And the limbo in the deal? Looked like the boat AND your son got in on the dance! What fun … and how funny were the horse and cow … two rascals out lookin’ for trouble!
LOL – true! 😀
I’ve been stopped more than once by horses or cows in the road, too! LOL
This was a new one for me! Ducks… yes, dogs, oh yeah, deer…. all the time…. once a moose. Never a horse and cow. 😀
Wow, Great deal on the patio set!!! We call that a Nani bargain around here!
LOL – I bargained with him… which is so unlike me but it did say $75.00 or best offer 😀
Love the pictures, especially those of Duluth. Haven’t been back there since my mom and I visited in 94 to attend my 35th HS reunion. The Ariel Bridge can still make me homesick!
I have never sat and watched it up close so that was kind of fun. Like I was telling Justin (college son) what we take for granted in our own back yard.
Gotta love the horse and cow out for a stroll!
It was entertaining Cheryl 😀
That bridge looks so cool! I imagine they make all of the cars get off of it before it lifts though. 🙂 I was thinking that would be a fun ride. The granola/cereal bags made me laugh.
Alyce, we talked to our waiter at Grandma’s who told us that they have stop lights come up and a man in the tower. There is a walk way across the bridge too and he said once he was late to work and coming across it and started running to make it on time and the guy running the bridge came over the speakers “I see you and you need to stop”, the waiter said he yelled back “I cant or I will be late to work” and he made a run for it.
He said once the bridge it is up it can be a 40 minute to an hour delay.
Thank you for commenting on the granola… every comment I read I was surprised that nobody thought was as funny as I did. 😀
Loving the animals meeting in the road! Looks like you did well at the garage sale… We don’t tend to have them here, we have car boot sales instead.
Ok… you can not leave me hanging there…. what is a car boot sale? I have to Google this…. 😀
Nice tour. I’m still laughing at the cereal… not so much the animals though. If I get an hour out of the city here it’s still all farmland. I’d have snapped up that patio set too!
I bought the Crapola… I don’t necessarily want to eat it, but I do want to display it at the cabin for guests to get a chuckle. 😀
It probably tastes horrible! I bet they figure everyone wants it for the bag and no one will actually eat it.
LOL… probably 😀
What an outstanding bargain!!! And, the cereal (crapola) cracked me up!! 🙂
Its a great find… I think I can get the replacement glass piece for around $5.00
Oh, I love your fabulous pictures (especially the cow and the horse, and the view from the restaurant window, and the ship on the lake). It all looks so peaceful and unspoiled.
Its a great part of the world to be connected too…. I never appreciated it growing up but I now I see what a rare beauty of an area I live in. 🙂
I love the friends (cow and pony) out for a stroll! Precious. We have a drawbridge here in town and we locals are always aware of the time so we can beat the bridge in the summer when it opens all.the.time.! Have a great weekend.
That sounds so cool Nise! You have a good weekend too 🙂
The cow and horse remind me of the lone sheep ambling down the middle of the road on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Really enjoyed your trip, Sheila!
Thanks Cathy…. it was rather fun – as long as they stayed away from the highway… I was concerned with a horrible ending to this story.
Great photos! My uncle used to work a bridge like that on the Cuyahoga River –the engineering is pretty impressive.
My Snapshot
Oh that is pretty cool! I bet you have a lot of insight then on bridges… I hadnt really thought about it before but they are pretty amazing!
Loving all of your photos!! I love living in the country…most of the time! 😀
I do too…. I am just a few miles out of town which is nice because I am not right in town.. but not way out in the boonies either 😀
I just had deja vu….I’ve been to Duluth (with the Boy Scouts two summers ago on our way to the Boundary Waters). I think I have a picture of the pier…. Great deal on what looks like a fabulous patio set!
Here’s my Snapshot.
Thanks Bev 🙂
Lovet he two four legged friends taking a road trip together, so cute. That’s quite a bargain on the patio furniture.
Thanks Stacy, I thought so too… now out weather has been so crappy I have not been able to use it yet!
I want a bag of Crapola, too!
LOL Ryan, you made my morning with that comment. Next time I am in Ely…. I am getting you a bag 😀
Sheila, What great finds. I’m jealous of your leisurely trip up north and the limbo contest, along with the pony in the road and the garage sale finds. I’m still contemplating a backyard full of graduation party furniture that I have to clean up. Here’s Mine
It was a wonderful and timely trip Paulita. And having a whole weekend with my 22 year old son is an impossible thing and we did it 🙂
Minnesota looks like a fun place with lots of character. I love that garage sale bargain!
