Morning Meanderings… BEA (Book Expo of America) Countdown

Good morning!

BEA is less that two weeks away and while it seemed to take FOREVER to get here… now I am all like really, two weeks???   Actually, two weeks from today I will be on the last day of the Expo.  I am flying to New York on Sunday June 3, and returning to Minnesota on June 8th and going right into the MS 150 bike ride on the 8th – 10th and then back home here to Brainerd.

Crazy and exciting!

Two years ago when I first went to BEA it felt like there was more of a buzz around the internet about it.  I remember a group of bloggers all wrote posts about BEA – what to expect, what to make sure you do, what to wear…  I ate those posts up.  I remember sitting with my laptop and a pen and paper handy.  Every tip (bring your own bottled water and snacks to the Javitz) I captured on paper (wear comfortable shoes). Those tips were invaluable to me.

Last year I wrote such a post, and this year – hopefully at some point over the next few days, I plan to write one again.  That first year I was a nervous wreck.  I had never been to New York before, I had never met my roommate Reagan Remmers (Miss Remmers Reviews)… we had just connected through our blogs and emails because we were both from Minnesota.  My friends thought I was nuts to go and stay with people in a hotel room that I had never met.  They said things like “What if Bobbi from Bookish Adventures is actually a big hairy dude?”  Ok ok… they didn’t exactly go that far…. but I did have my fears… 😛

Anyhoo…. are you going to BEA this year?  I would love to meet you if you are – and I would love to meet up with you again if we have already met.  The hanging out with fellow book lovers is a huge part of my love for this event.  😀

  1. woohoo! I will be there…. I think I will only end up going to one day though. Would love to meet up with everyone for dinner or something… putting faces to names 🙂

You are crazy to do the 150 right after but I completely understand since I would run the same day!

    1. LOL – thats just the way it worked out Mari 😀 Yes – we absolutely need to meet up – I will email you my cell number so we can connect when we are both there 😀 Do you know which day you are going yet?

  2. You know I’ll be there. I have so much to do to get ready too. I can remember lecturing my son and nephew about meeting people on the internet – that all came back to bite me in the butt after I started my blog! lol

    1. Yes! This blogging world is a whole different thing isn’t it? 😀 I found people I met at BEA (bloggers) to be just as genuine as they are on their blogs. It was pretty refreshing 🙂

  3. I live in California….and until it comes here again (like it did in 2008), I probably won’t be going.

Yes, I’d love to visit New York….and maybe someday.

Have fun! Now you’re a veteran, having been already…once or twice? I can’t keep track.

I did meet some Internet buddies once in 2009…we all met in a California town. One was from Maine. We’d like to do it again.

    1. This will be my third BEA adventure. I have looked forward to it since last years ended. I went back to work after last years and put in the time to have off for this year. 😀 I will probably do the same this time as well.

If it ever moves to California – I will meet you there 😀

  4. I’m going for the first time, but will only be there Monday and Tuesday. Am staying with my NYC daughter, so she will help me find my way to the Expo, I hope (the part I’m most nervous about, being extremely directionally challenged.) I would love to meet up. Are you going for the Monday book bloggers’ conference???

  5. You’re right, there don’t seem to be as many articles about BEA this year. I’ve seen a few, but nothing like previous years. Can’t believe it’s almost here! Yikes! Need to put my schedule together!

  6. Sheila, I know its hard to believe that this time in two weeks it will be over. I am so looking forward to meeting you this time. How I missed you the first time I don’t know LOL we will have to plan something . I get in late on the 3rd and leave early on the 9th.

    1. Awesome Cindy – I will be sure to try to connect with you too! My original plan was to stay until the 9th – I like to have one extra day to go see sights and take in a play but with the MS ride I couldnt do it.

  7. I am not going to be able to spend much time at BEA because of work, but since I work in the city, so I’d love to meet up!!! Shoot me an email 🙂

  8. I’m arriving in NYC on Saturday and leaving early Thursday evening, speaking on a panel at the Bloggers Conference on Monday afternoon, and covering events for Armchair BEA–and there’s only a week to get ready! I hope I’ll see you again this year, Sheila!

    1. YAY Florinda! I will for sure see you at the Blogger Convention!I should have planned to go to New York on Saturday – Sunday evening already has two invents…. it would be nice to be able to chill a bit, maybe take in a play before it all gets crazy! 😀

  9. I’ve always wanted to go to BEA and I’m sure I’ll get there one day. It always seems to fall around the time that I have my biggest tradeshow of the year for work so I’m never able to take the time off.

Hmmmm... what do you think?
