Good morning! Happy Tuesday. I woke up to a light rain (again) pattering on the back deck as I let the dogs out but today… I dont mind. After I write this I will be on my way to work, after work to the store to get my ingredients for tonight’s Bookies review of Still Alice by Lisa Genova.
To all of you who have said to me “I can not believe you have not read this one yet!” or “That is one of my favorite books!” Now that I have read it, I can not believe I had not read it yet either, and yes, I think it is quickly rising in my mind to on of the best books I have read this year. Our review will go up on Thursday.
So as it clouds up over here in Central Minnesota, my mind is circling around ideas of if I can make pumpkin ravioli for the first time ever and serve it to 18 girls in my book club successfully, or….
am I better off making enchilada’s… a safer recipe I am more familiar with…. 😀
In Shelf Awareness this morning, one of those lovely morning reads that pops in my email and makes me smile, this was stated about the best book club reads out there right now:
Top Book Club Books in April
The following were the most popular book club books during April based on votes from readers and leaders of more than 32,000 book clubs registered at Bookmovement.com:
1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
2. Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy by E.L. James
3. Defending Jacob: A Novel by William Landay
4. The Paris Wife: A Novel by Paula McLain
5. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
6. Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand
7. Before I Go to Sleep: A Novel by S.J. Watson
8. Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese
9. Room: A Novel by Emma Donoghue
10. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

I’ve read 1, 8, 9, and 10. I’m not sure I agree with Fifty Shades of Grey – I can’t figure out all the hype for that book.
I have no desire to read that one Kathy, I have no idea what you would talk about at a book club about it….LOL – nor do I want to find out. 😀
I have read 1,3 and 9 and am still in the middle of 8 – Cutting for Stone, I missed that book club but had vowed to read it, if only I could get out of the rut, just am not drawn to finish it, someday!
It is worth it, really a fascinating book. 😀
I personally read #5,6,7 and 8. many in my block book club have read Unbroken. and one member presented Room last time. the format of my book club is “trading titles”, meaning I don’t impose one common book to all, but each member presents a book he/she read during the past month. it’s so much fun, everyone is always excited to share about they liked reading. here is the summary of our last meeting, you can see the diversity of titles:

I would like to read Unbroken, and ROOM was a fantastic book club discussion.
Still Alice and Defending Jacob are on my TBR stacks. Have not read any of the others. So many books, so little time! Have a great day!
Still Alice was FANTASTIC!!!! Our review will be awesome – I just know it 😀 I really want to read Defending Jacob.
I still haven’t read Still Alice…lol
But I know I will at some point. I have Left Neglected waiting on Sparky…and I’m wondering why I haven’t read it yet.
And I haven’t read any of those ten books, although several are on my list.
None of them Laurel??? Ooh, start with ROOM 😀
defending jacob was incredible!! i’m not usually a keeper of books i have already read (way too many unreads cloggingthe shelves!) but still alice i kept…her 2nd book is left neglected and while i found the idea intersting; i had never heard of left neglect, the story didn’t resonate with me as much
have fun at book club!
I have to get that one Diana, it really calls to me 😀
I have read #5, #7, #9 and #10.
All fantastic selections!!
It is always fun to see what other book clubs are reading 😀
I haven’t read Still Alice either. Good luck with the food prep… ravioli is way too much work to do on the day-of. I’d stick with the enchiladas.
I’d like to be a fly on the wall at one of those book clubs discussing Fifty Shades of Grey LOL 🙂
I went with the enchiladas Leslie… I have never made ravioli… today was not the day to start 😀 I can not even imagine what a discussion over Fifty Shades would be like. 😛
The only one I read was number 7 and wasn’t a huge fan of it.
I didnt really like #7 either… I griped to my book club about it… 😀 I may have been in the minority on that one… well, me and you now 😀
I have read 1,4,5,7,8, 9 & 10. Will not read #2, have #3 at home and will be the next one I read, tried #6 on audio but there were two many facts for me to keep straight at the beginning so I brought it back to the library. I think I will attempt it again in print. Wow! I’m pretty impressed with myself! lol
I will not be reading #2 either, but am looking froward to reading #3 soon :D. I would like to try #6, but am so tired of war stories…. which is sad… but true.
I’ve read 1,2, and 5…all worth discussion!
I bet Staci! 😀 You must read #9 and #10!
