Morning Meanderings… The Question Is… Did I Do It?

Good morning!  😛

Mmm…. COFFEE CUP and I are enjoying a quiet start to the day.  Crazy how dark it is now at 7:06 am… gah… I am not looking forward to the coming season.

My original plan this morning was to get up early and hit the gym… I have decided the only time I can guarantee is free time for me (non scheduled) is the hours between 5 and 7 a.m.  Well, yesterday I went to Group Power with my friend Wendy for the first time in months – pretty much pre-injury in June.  Lets just say it is not a good sign when you start hurting DURING class….  😯

So yeah… today I hurt… but it is a good hurt.  AND I will hit the gym tomorrow morning.

If you were reading my meanderings at the end of last week I was sharing that my book club was reading Pride and Prejudice for our annual Classic Read in October.  As of Friday… I had not opened the book, but being optimistic… I had a plan to get it done before B- Day (Book Day) which is uhhh… errrr…..

today.

The plan was a simple math one:  375 pages.  I had three days – Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  That’s 125 pages a day.  Doable?  Yes.  If I could dedicate 3 hours each day to reading it would be an average of 41.6 pages an hour.  I would even have time to grab a cup of coffee!  😛  Really it was only 1.4 pages a minute.    See…. doable.  😀

So…. did I do it?

Ummmm….

not yet.

As it seems to go with us readers, life happened and I think I actually spent more time listening to audio this weekend while I cooked and cleaned than I did reading.

Will I be done by our 6:30 meeting tonight?  I think so… or I will be close.  I am over 100 pages short right now, but should have an hour to an hour and a half to read before I go tonight.  I will just have to skip the coffee… 😀

Do you have any book deadlines to share?  Funny moments where you are trying to squeeze more reading into your day?

  1. As I just wrote on my blog, between taking advantage of rare wonderful weather to be outside working, and busyness because Dave is closing his machine shop, I have been very slowly reading Jane Eyre. I’m enjoying the book, just have so little time to read that it’s frustrating. At least my visit to the periodontist yesterday morning was full of good news. I’m good for another year!

  2. Yep..I agree with Kathy…you can do it or you will be darn close…
I hate deadlines…I am famous for canceling and postponing and coming up with creative excuses whenever I can…

  3. Oh, I think that I will be experiencing that more and more as I read some books for blog tours. I’ve discovered that I have to read the books early, write the review and save it in Word, and then I can safely move on to other reads. If I read it too close to the deadline, I’m dead meat. I’ll not enjoy the book at all….and my fear of missing the deadline will surely kill any fun!

I have another one in November. And it’s an author I haven’t read before, so I have no way of knowing if the book will grab me and keep me turning pages. My biggest fear…not liking a book that I’ve accepted for review.

    1. That is the smart way to do it Laurel… I usually do the opposite – see that I have X amount of time, put it to the side…. panic a day or two before when I realize the review date is coming fast and spend every waking free moment reading it to get it done… ugh… books are to be enjoyed – not to be work.

I am really careful what I accept for review because of what you said here Laurel – the books are important to the authors and I try really hard to choose only books I believe I will enjoy.

  4. I have a feeling that you are going to make it! I remember trying to get My Antonia by Willa Cather read before book club one time. That was such a hard read for me and I remember being only halfway done with it the night before book club. I ended up locking myself in my room to finish it so I had absolutely no distractions and I gotter done!

  5. Yes I’m always trying to sneak in more reading time. Literally I have book hanging off my nose most of the day and night. I have been avoiding my classics lately so you’ve inspired me to pull one out and make it my next read although no time limit…hang in there!

  6. YOU CAN DO IT! I always have one book in the car with me, so that if I ever have a delay-at the vet, at the dentist, in a LONG line (like the DMV) I have something to read. Lately I’ve added audio books to my phone and I’m loving that as well. Read on!

  7. Happens to be frequently lately as life has been happening all around me. I find that I will start reading a book and as I get closer to book group I sometimes end up switching to audio. I did that this week. I was not going to show up at book group without the book done as the author was joining us. She has now cancelled for I could breathe a sign of relief as I continue to plug away on the book, Stormchasers by Jenna Blum.

    1. I am doing that more often Jen… I have only read one audio book for book club and that is only because I had it on hand, but I had a lot more audio time this weekend than I had actual reading time. 😀

  8. I have a library book due Thursday. As of last night, this much hyped book I wasn’t loving, and had a little under 200 pages left. I think I had a sign today- head spliting migraine today. So I think I’m just going to send it back unfinished. And the thing is, I’m not even disappointed about the decision.

Hmmmm... what do you think?
