Good Morning!
I swear a week ago I was almost caught up with writing reviews yet this morning I sit here making a list of the reviews I need to write on the books I have read since the readathon to present. The week lets just say – got away from me.
I did announce last Sunday that I was going to tackle The Hobbit on audio. I have no idea where that came from, add it to a list of random thoughts that plow through my head daily… I have started The Hobbit and have to smile as I am slowly taken back to Middle Earth, a place of many creatures and of course the Hobbits who are short and their feet are so big they are unable to wear shoes….
What I do not remember is all the singing and in the beginning of this audio – there is a LOT of singing. Take this scene from when Bilbo lets the dwarves, and Gandalf into his home the night before they leave on their adventure:
“Chip the glasses and crack the plates!
Blunt the knives and bend the forks!
That’s what Bilbo Baggins hates-
Smash the bottles and burn the corks!
Cut the cloth and tread on the fat!
Pour the milk on the pantry floor!
Leave the bones on the bedroom mat!
Splash the wine on every door!
Dump the crocks in a boiling bawl;
Pound them up with a thumping pole;
And when you’ve finished, if any are whole,
Send them down the hall to roll !
That’s what Bilbo Baggins hates!
So, carefully! carefully with the plates!”
Anyway – when I opened my emails this morning I was pleased to see that I had a link to The Hobbit Video set for the upcoming movie. It was almost spooky to see the set that was used in some of the other movies being revived in anticipation of The Hobbit:
Ok so sitting here Friday morning I can tell you I am totally unprepared for this weekend. We are leaving town at 1:30 and I have to pick up food, pack, grab a couple of board games, movies, finish laundry, and I want to stop at one of the stores in town to see if I can find a super cute shirt to wear out tomorrow night. If you read yesterday mornings post you will see my weekend away plans).
SO – I can say I plan to be still around with the morning meanderings and if I can get it together here before I leave there will be the reviews too – I have not even reviewed and shared about our book club meeting this past Tuesday yet! Anyway – I am pulling out of Middle Earth for a while…. I have a few things to get done in regular Earth. 😉
Any other Hobbit/Lord Of The Rings/ Tolkien fans out there?
Hope everyone’s weekend is awesome!

I’m really excited for the Hobbit. I read it in grade 6 and am feeling like I need to read it again. My husband was a HUGE LOTR fan and the movies came out right around his birthday so we always made a big event of going to see them.
That’s fun Bonnie…. 😀
I haven’t read Tolkien but I wish you well on your journey to Middle Earth 🙂 and have a wonderful weekend with your friends – and Rick 😀
Thanks Mary – there are books that i want to be able to discuss and this is one of them…. I did read it in High Schools but barely remember the details 🙂
You know what? I think I’m going to listen to The Hobbit on audio too. I’m just finishing up with The King’s Mistress by Emma Campion and I had started listening to The Hobbit last year, but stopped for some reason. I can’t wait for the movie. The LOTR films are among my most favorite.
Have a great time this weekend. 🙂
They are amazing movies aren’t they Michelle? I am always impressed with these authors that create whole worlds in their minds… put it out there on paper and eventually it hits the screen…..
I’m excited that The Hobbit will finally be coming to the big screen, and I’m glad (I think) that Peter Jackson is the one doing it. I’m a fan of Middle Earth. 🙂
Have a great weekend!
I think so too Hannah – I watched that video this morning and it looks like they are off to a good start! 😀
Watching it now. 😀
It’s so much fun to get a peek into Middle Earth again! Maybe I should pull out my LOTR dvds …
I am intrigued by the idea of this little world—haven’t yet read The Hobbitt—it might be really fun to hear the audio, since there is singing….
Have a great weekend!
I think audio is a great way to go Laurel and it helps me get in all the books I want to know. 😀
totally jealous you are seeing Rick!! He was one my my childhood crushes, for sure!!! Is he performing at one of the casinos???? Enjoy!!!
Yes – he is at the Walker casino 😀
I love The Lord of the Rings-it is one of my favorite books and the films are my favorite movies. I am not as big a fan of The Hobbit though. I don’t think I’d be able to listen to the audio. I usually skip the singing/poetry parts at times when I reread Tolkien’s books. Aside from the “One Ring” poem, I really don’t care for his poetry.
I am excited about the movie version of The Hobbit though. Have a great weekend!
The singing was a little wearing Christina… in a book I would just move on but on audio while driving through town to elf songs…. uhhh yeah…. I will keep my windows up 😛
The Hobbit was actually my favorite. Probably because I read it first.
Have a good weekend.
I wish I had your energy.
Thanks Debbie 🙂
I started to read The Fellowship of the Ring but the writing was so small it gave me a headache! I am aiming to get it on audio so i can listen to all three. I also still need to figure out a way to stay awake through the films!
The films are long arent they? I remember when we went to Lord Of The Rings the theater was packed and we had to sit in the very front – too close to the screen and too long to sit like that with your neck leaning way back 😛
I love these books- although all the songs get on my nerves, even when reading the book. My favorite is The Fellowship of the Ring.
Yes the songs are a little annoying on the audio too 😀
On the audio it seems like they are singing every 5 minutes….LOL
I love the Lord of the Rings, although I think I came to the Hobbit too late to appreciate it fully. Still, I was very excited to see that first video and am very much looking forward to the film.
I am too Katie – it will be fun to see what they do with it 🙂
Ok, how funny is that – I JUST checked out The Hobbit on audio from my library on Friday! I was intending to listen to it with Kiddo while driving to our camping trip this weekend, but it got rained out so we didn’t go. Still, I’m really looking forward to listening to this book again after so many years (I’ve both read and listened to it several times, but it’s been YEARS).
That is hilarious Heather! 😛
I have never listened to it… but want to give it a try 🙂
Oh and congrats on the roommates – I seem Amanda’s post!
