Good morning!
Fingers are flying across the keyboard this morning…. must be the coffee.
Today is a day that many people wait all year for. The super bowl. You here the excitement build up in those last games of the season… some teams drop off the chart, others hang in there and finally (FINALLY) it is down to two teams… and if your team is not one of them… you usually go into this BIG GAME tonight still rooting for one over the other.
My friend Wendy (Hi Wendy!) is a HUGE Packer fan. Even though she lives here in Minnesota, she is originally from Wisconsin and she is Packer all the way. I can imagine that she probably does have the face paint, jersey, and the foam finger…. even if she will not admit it. 😉
I however – have never been interested in football. Yet every year we will go over to friends over large quantities of appetizers and watch the big screen. I go… to hang out with the girls and catch up…. and for the commercials. My super bowl goes like this:
*The game is on the TV*
Girls: Talk, talk, talk, giggle, talk, talk, NO WAY!, laugh, talk talk
*Commercials come on*
Me: “Quiet everyone – it’s the commercials!”
Yup. It’s true. I do like a well written commercial and that is the highlight of the game for me. (Please do not hit me with your foam finger.) 😀
What is not to love?

I’m a fan of the commercials too, when they’re good. My whole family is Packers fans, though, so I’ll probably watch the game at least some. And, I’m way more of a football fan than you are, I think, although I prefer to watch college ball.
You probably are a bigger fan than me Hannah 😀 Super Bowl is the only one I even come close to watching. Last year we had some friends over and I watched the last part of the game because it was actually kind of exciting!
We caught the last half of the game last night; the fourth quarter was way more exciting than the 3rd!
I thought so too… I didnt watch a lot of it – mostly talking and catching up with friends but I did watch the end.
So, which commercials stood out to you?
I think the Doritos ones this year… the one where the guy sucked the Doritos dust off the other guts finger… I almost choked. It shocked me – it was gross.. and I laughed anyway.
The one with the dog and the Doritos, and poor Ozzy Ozborne… seriously – is that a facelift? Botox?
Did you have any favorites?
Um, I honestly had trouble paying attention to them! I’d have to go back and watch them online to make any kind of a decision, but I haven’t taken the time yet this year.
A friend posted the Star Wars/VW commercial on fb a few days ago…I absolutely love it! The little boy is such an amazing actor to so perfectly convey his emotions with only body language.
My Superbowl tradition for years has been to curl up with a glass of wine and a blanket and watch the Masterpiece Theater version of Jane Eyre. Yeah, I’m not into football. At all.
I seen it for the first time this morning and loved it – I can see a little child thinking he made the car do that! 😀
OOH – enjoy Jane Eyre! I wonder if that would work for me… the theater version as the book is my krytonite and I have yet to make it through it….
😛
Oh, how can you not have read Jane Eyre? It’s one my all-time favorite books!
If you want to watch the movie version (of which there are *many*) I most definitely recommend this one: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/janeeyre/index.html
And there’s a new version, opening in theaters on March 11 (My birthday HAPPY birthday! 🙂 )
I tried – I really have….. but I think….
SHE HATES ME!
LOL 😛
I will try again….. some day….. really
I am not a football fan although I have been to some Super Bowl parties in the past and enjoyed the commercials and chatting with friends 🙂 My sister and brother in law are die hard Packers fans and they are in Vegas for the weekend to enjoy the game and party there. I may check in on the score online and hope the Packers win but I won’t be watching the game!
This year I will be watching one of the DVDs I have checked out from the library. I am currently in the middle of Little Dorrit and I also have Cranford which I really enjoy. I wish I could watch the new episode of Glee that is airing right after the game (I’m more excited about that) but I will be watching it tomorrow instead on Hulu.
Have a great time with your friends tonight!
I am excited to catch up with friends tonight and a couple of them are in my book club so i will be seeing them again on Tuesday night for our review. 😀
I’m from Wisconsin so I think it’s a rule – I have to be a Packers fan, right? Actually one of our good friends has been a Cowboys fan his whole life so that shoots my theory (or maybe I should report him??). When our team isn’t in the SB we usually go to a party and then I’m much like you – talk with my friends and watch the commercials, haha.
Mary I pick on Wendy a lot but if the Vikings cant be in it… I would go Packers too 😀
Do not tell Wendy! She would never let me live it down! 😛
Don’t like the game because every time I watch, some one gets hurt bad. But I do love the commericals!
Carol Wong
The intensity of the game Carol… I can not even imagine the pressure that the players feel today!
I’ll probably be watching some of the game and the commercials tonight, and munching on delicious appetizers, of course! I do love a good Super Bowl commercial, plus, how often do you have an excuse to break out your cheesehead hat? I’ll probably draw lots of mockery, especially considering I live in Steeler country (but am far from being a Steeler fan), but it’ll be worth it….I hope. 😉
I just got home from church Megan and a guy that helps out there had his big cheese head on…LOL
I am bringing meatballs and Doritos to the get together tonight so I will probably be eating poorly too… hello gym tomorrow!
Usually I read during the game and pause during the commercials. 🙂 This year we have friends coming over though, so I will be focusing on the game. We’ll see how that goes; I only ever care if the Bears are playing; although I hear that since I’m a Bears fan, I am honor bound to hate the Packers…
I like that “honor bound” to hate the Packers… I think I am only honor bound when the Vikings are playing 😀
Have a fun night Trisha!
I’m with ya. No one here goes to the bathroom during the commercials! Only during the GAME.
LOL Annette – SO TRUE! 😀
I love that Darth Vader commercial! So cute! I’ve never thought of Darth Vader as cute before. Kind of a weird feeling lol. Hope there are some good ones. Is it bad that I don’t even know when the game begins? Our plans today include a library run, lunch at Olive Garden and a movie.
The only reason I know start time… is I know when to be at our friends home…LOL
Oh and secretly – I wish I had the same plans as you do…. that sounds divine!
It was divine! We got home in time for the half-time show (which I ended up turning off anyways). One of our teachers has been wearing Packers colors all week and I asked her if she got any grief about it (I live in Illinois and Bears are fierce enemies of the Packers – from what I hear) and she said she hadn’t. I like the Packers just fine, but I’ve never been hardcore about cheering for our teams – we’re often disappointed by them.
Glad you had a good time – I did too 😀
I am a football fan, a Packers fan at that, so I’m excited for the game today. No, I’m not having people over, just me and the hubby, but we’re watching none the less. I do love the commercials best though! Today I will be reading for The Big Game is On! Read-a-Thon! hosted by Jenn’s Bookshelves. Should be a fun filled day.
What a fun book to read during the read-a-thon! 😀
I have an interview during the game, but go Packers! I’m a Wisconsin girl all the way!!! XOXOX
AN interview Rebecca? On a Sunday? I am intrigued…. 😀
Oh for Library Journal 🙂
Oh cool! 😀
I don’t care about pro football either, but we’re heading to a party tonight – I’m sure I’ll be talking and giggling!
Have fun Kathy! 😀
I’m a huge football fan but very disgruntled because my Bears aren’t in it, not even the Eagles who are growing on me since I moved to PA. (Is there such a thing as “gruntled”?) Anyway, I’ll be snug in my recliner yelling for the Steelers because, of course, as a Bears fan I hate the Packers. I remember when they nearly killed Jim McMahan. Bah humbug!
If I can be “whelmed” Rural View, you can certainly be “gruntled”! 😛
I haven’t watched the Super Bowl since years ago when a guy I was with watched it. Even then, it was the food and drinks that I enjoyed the most.
Today I’m watching my youngest grandson so his daddy can have a Super Bowl party. (My daughter is working).
My granddaughter Fiona is hanging out with us, and we plan to do some shopping and eating out. No game….
If I was single and not going to a friends home tonight Laurel I can guarantee you – the game would not be on… I would more than likely be tuned into a good book or a good movie. 😀
Have a great day – it sounds like you will be having fun!
I’m not the least bit interested in football, but my husband will give me a shout when the commercials come on. LOL
That sounds perfect Beth! Have fun! 😀
We do not watch at all. We have lived in many states and could follow many teams, but watch none. Except on the rare occasions the Vikings make it then we usually watch the last 10 minutes or so.
We definitely do not watch it for the commercials as I find the amount of money spent on just one to be appalling and then I think of all the good that money could do elsewhere, where it is truly needed. Whew, that was a long way to simply state: we will not be watching.
Good point Jennifer – the commercial prices are so unreal and all because of the audience that is captivated by the game.
I do like them though.
Have an awesome evening Jennifer – hope you are reading something awesome! 😀
We even get the Superbowl over here, which is funny because we don’t get any of the other American Football games. I’m sure it’s being shown on the BBC here this year, so I’m not sure what they’re going to do when you guys have the commercials because the BBC don’t do commercials (it’s funded by our TV license).
Interesting Nikki-ann, I love hearing about how things are different where you are at!
Have a fun evening 😀
I’m another one who will be reading during the game, and watching the commercials. I don’t like going to Super Bowl parties because they have it backwards and everyone talks during the all-important commercials! That’s the most important part of the Super Bowl! *L*
Have fun at your party!
LOL – I know! I tell them to be quiet because of the commercials…. 😛
I’ll be watching. I left my cheesehead at work, though, darnit.
NO! Jill you must go get it! 😀 OR – make a paper one… like you did for Billy. OOH – that would be awesome actually – you and Billy wearing the cheese heads. 😀
It seems everybody talk about Superbowl. My timeline in twitter is full with that hastag.
Thanks for posting those commercials. The Volkswagen is hilarious. I just cant stop giggling looking at that boy.
But I do not get the last video. Blame to my bad English 😀
The last one is a combo of the best of last years commercials Aleetha – it is just a little snipit of each 🙂
I’m even worse because I don’t watch the game, I just watch the commercials online. I’ve seen the one with the Darth Vader kid many times now and it’s my favorite. 🙂
I love that one Alyce – cracks me up! 😀
That was a great game!!!!!! I love the Packers!!!!! And yes Sheila, I have all sorts of Packer stuff…including a brick to throw at the TV – thanks to my dad! When I was younger, my dad, sister and I would play John Madden football on super nintendo and run the packers to the superbowl!!! Being a Packer fan is so much more than being a football fan. I had a friend in college get married at Lambeau field – awesome!!!!! GO PACKERS!
Ahhh…. my dear friend Wendy! 😀
I admire you so much!
I am a football fan but wasn’t loving the two teams this year so I read my book and watched mostly on the commercials and the half-time show!
