Morning Meandering

I am working the home show for the Mid Minnesota Builders Association.  I run the concession stand which raises money for scholarships.

Home show edition…. day one.

This is what my morning was like today:  We are at the home show in the civic center and I am starting the coffee and setting up the concessions.  A girl (we will call her “Girl” for this post) I work with every year at the show is helping me with this set up.

Girl:  Ok…. where is it?

Me (brewing the BIG pots of coffee):  Where is what?

Girl:  Where is the book or two you have every year?

Me:  I don’t know what you are talking about.  I am in 100% Home Show mode.

Girl (spinning around looking about the area):  No…. It has to be here.

Me:  I seriously think you must be on something.  Help me get the price lists up.

Girl:  Is it in your purse?

Me:  I am concerned for your well being.  I am book free.

Girl:  Impossible.  It is here.  I know.  You have one every year and every chance you get you are up in the kitchen with your nose in a book.

Me:  You are thinking of someone else.  That girl that helped last year, she was a reader.  You may be thinking of her.  Yeah.  I bet it was her.  What was her name… Laura, Lori…. something like that.

Girl (gleefully has her hand in my purse and pulls out the evidence):  Aha!  I knew it!  You ARE reading this weekend!  You can’t fool me!

Me (so busted…) :  What are you, CSI?

I will be smelling like a grilled brat in no time.

What are your plans for the weekend? 😀

  1. Love it! This weekend I am relaxing….I’ve been working 14 hour days (today being one of them) so I think I deserve a bit of a break….and a trip to Borders!

    1. Hannah, this year I brought my lap top too. I am currently up in the concession stand where I do the cooking having my soup, an orange and having fun on line! 🙂

The book actually turned out to be wonderful because it became a conversation starter. Now others I am working with have started talking authors and books they enjoy. Ahhh….. one of my favorite topics 😀

  2. Awesome! I always have a book in my purse. Girls I don’t know at my daughter’s dance studio commented on it the other day and we ended up having a great talk about what books they were reading (they were pre teens and teens)

No weeend plans. It’s the start of spring break for me….

  3. Weekend reading is what I’m hoping for…no matter what else goes on, that book is right there…hey, you may have noticed a meme I play on Fridays about the book in the handbag!

I’m also going to check out the movies. And, at some point, take my car to my youngest son so he can change the timing belt. This is not weekend stuff, generally, but he’s been hard to pin down!

  4. I always have couple of books in my bag everytime I go out . I can’t be without book 🙂 You’ve got to do something in ur spare time . right ?

    1. Thanks for asking Lisa – I have with me the final chapters of The Fiddler’s Gun and the rest of Avempartha by Michale Sullivan – planning to have them both done in the next couple of days here.

  5. Ha ha, I ALWAYS have a book in my bag too (it’s the law!). What book did you have?

My husband has arranged a surprise for me tomorrow but won’t tell me what it is. The only thing he will say is that it’s nothing to do with books (what sort of a surprise is that then?!!!)

  6. Oh you are too funny! I always have a book with me too. I’m planning on getting some major house cleaning done before we leave for our vacation next week.

  7. If my luck holds out I shall be reading and supervising the guys as the continue to put a new picket fence up around our property. If I am truly fortunate, they will even rake the yard and prune. Regardless, I am reading.

    1. Jennifer I like your plans! I love spring and getting on to fun projects! 🙂 And – reading is just the icing on the cake 🙂

It is cold in Minnesota, 50 degrees now. I think I have a few more weeks before I can do some of those yard projects.

    1. Oh Staci I am envious! I have wonderful library books checked out that I have not had time for 😦

Maybe that is what I will do on “recovery Monday” 🙂

  8. Lol!!! Can’t believe she actually put her hand in your purse! I’m gonna try catch up on some seriously neglected reading this wknd too. Have been too busy with work lately, so can’t wait to just lay back with a cup of coffee and a fantastic book in front of me…

Hmmmm... what do you think?
