Morning Meanderings…

Second cup of coffee this morning and trying to get functional enough to take the dogs down the road to where they get their hair cut.  The snow is falling lightly outside and there is now a light dusting covering my world.  While I am not excited about the snow, I know it is inevitable and I am thankful that it took this long to start falling as we will be in snow mode now until around April.

I am a little melancholy this morning and I think it is due to the fact that next weekend we see  our oldest son off to boot camp in the Navy.  A bitter sweet moment.  On one hand I am excited for him as he is moving forward and doing something positive with his life.  On the other hand… I am his mom, and he will be leaving two days before his 22nd birthday and this will be our first Christmas without him.

Ok – on a lighter note (MUCH LIGHTER) I have to go and find sweaters today for Al and I for the annual Ugly Sweater party we are invited to annually at our friends home.  Nothing like a good ugly sweater to cheer you up…LOL

Here is last years picture of Al and I…

I felt like a character in a Dr Suess book….. 😉

    1. Hi Audrey – for my book buddies I want to have a dress as your favorite fictional character party…. I am wondering if I can do this on line…. hmmmm…..

It is sad that Brad wont be with us for Christmas and I am still trying to wrap my head around that.

  1. I love your comment about looking like a Dr. Seuss character. What does it say about me that I actually *like* your “ugly sweater.” 🙂

I am sorry that you’re saying goodbye to your son right now. That sounds heartwrenching, though exciting, since he’s moving forward with his plans for his life.

    1. HI Stephanie – yup heart wrenching and exciting all rolled into one about sums it up. I keep joking that I am about a week away from my nervous breakdown. 🙂 Perhaps I should wear the sweater….LOL

  2. Your sweater does remind me of a Dr. Suess character-try Salvation Army for old sweaters they are always great for such projects.

Sorry that your son will not be around for Christmas-although that is exciting joining the Navy.

    1. They nicknames the sweater last year Esme. It was called “the wuzzle”. My friend Becky even put it up on Facebook that way. 🙂

Thanks Esme for your worlds about my son. It is really bitter sweet.

  3. Man, I should start an ugly sweater party–my husband would win every year since he has never gotten rid of a sweater!

Best of luck to your son. As a mom with a son the same age, I understand your feelings entirely.

  4. Love the idea of an ugly sweater party! Cliff Huxtable would fit right in! 😀

So sorry that your son won’t be with you for Christmas this year, but how exciting that he’s joining the Navy! My husband’s uncle was in the Navy and said it was the best time of his life! Uncle Bill loved being a sailor, so hope your son enjoys it as much as he did! Maybe have an early birthday party for him before he leaves?

    1. Hi Alexia – thank you for your kind words. I know it is a good thing…. and it will do him a world of good. We are doing a combo birthday/Christmas before he goes next weekend. The sad thing is that he takes nothing with him so I am trying to line up things to do with him like his favorite place to eat, maybe a movie…

  5. I am going to be sad for you too now. It doesn’t matter how old they are, they are always going to be our babies! The ugly sweater party sounds like fun, but I don’t think yours was ugly at all! You better step it up this year!

    1. Hi Jo Jo… dont be sad – this too will pass, right? 🙂 I do need to up my game on the sweater. Where it lacked for ugly (althought the bright colors were pretty laughable) it made up for in itchy! I passed it on to a friend as the “traveling sweater”. She was suppose to take it on her next trip, have a picture with it and then it would be passed on to someone else in our group. She didnt do it and I was bummed. 😉

    1. Hi Alyce,

This is true…LOL…. I set my ugly standards pretty high as I always fear I will get there and it will the same sweater someone else has in their closet at home……;)

  6. The Ugly Sweater contest sounds like a lot of fun! It’s not fair you can wear a sweater like that and still look so good! 🙂

I’ll be praying for your son and your family. God bless those who serve our country!

Hmmmm... what do you think?
