Morning Meanderings…

Never really completed what I had hoped to yesterday.  Busy day… went to a poorly done movie last night, All About Steve.  Yikes.  A little funny…. but really not so much.

I was mentioning on Twitter last night that I am in a reading slump….the books I had prepped to read this week all feel heavy… does that make sense?  I am sure they are great reads… I think its me.  I think I have Readers Block….;)  With the business of the banquet this weekend and Chance with us and everything… I just think my mind isn’t wrapping around some of these books.

Last night I picked up a different book from my shelf…. Receive Me Falling by Erica Robuck.  I cautiously opened it and read the first few pages.  When I put it down for the night, I knew I wanted to know the what next…  “Whew!”  That’s a good thing!  Hopefully that will break up the readers block…..

Today I work, then spend the rest of the day prepping the auction baskets for our Missions Banquet that takes place this Saturday.  Hopefully the baskets wont take all night!   I have now been up for two hours… still unprepared for my day – just getting the last of the payroll in and hoping to sneak in a few minutes here to prep this post and make sure my review is ready to roll yet this morning.

“Readers Block” ever happen to you?  What did you do about it?

  1. I get that a lot. I usually read something EXTRA lite. It has to be fun and short.

Also book blog surfing helps too because when you get past the reader’s block, you will have all these books to want to read waiting for you. It also gets you excited to read again!

    1. Hi Casse…. I am trying a different approach 🙂 I set my selections aside and pulled something different off the shelf. I wont know until later tonight if that is going to be the one that puts me back on track. I hope so because I really want to read the ones I have been working on too…. just doesn’t seem to be the right topic now or something

  2. I totally understand readers block. It’s sometimes hard to find the right book to fit where you are, you know what I mean? I was experiencing this last week, and I had a couple of ‘false starts’ with some books I was looking forward to reading. I’m sure if I pick them up some other time down the road, I’ll enjoy them. I just wasn’t ready for them right now.

    1. A Bookshelf Monstrosity…. thats what I have been having – false starts. Thats a great way to put it. I am sitting with the book and reading and then my mind wanders away. I dont want to work at reading a book, I want to enjoy it and let it take me away. 🙂

  3. Well back in the day before I was a total book addict, I’d just stop reading for awhile sometimes months. Not an option for me now, I love reading too much. I have to have a book nearby. So I find something else to get me through and then I so back to what I was reading.

    1. I used to do that too Zia but then discovered once I got back into reading I had missed it so much. There really is nothing like a good book! I have plenty to choose from…. 😉

  4. I know what you mean! I experienced something like that with my last book…and I was enjoying it, too, but for some reason, I kept finding other things to do! I read all week, and finally finished and reviewed it, but it took SO LONG! All week for one book!

But the one I’m reading now is moving more quickly…I even woke up in the middle of the night to read some more. Plus, I have another one I’m working on, too. So between the two, I think the slump is over.

I think it’s just a matter of picking up another book to read.

BTW…I made another attempt to play Balderdash Thursday! The post is here:

    1. Hi Laurel…. YES! 🙂 I just had such a good reading week too I thought for sure this one would also be.

My Balderdash will not be up until late…. I have a lot of commitments today and hope to get to it around 5 pm

  5. I look around at my bookshelves sometimes and nothing seems to jump out. Considering you cannot walk into any room in my house without seeing a book that is rather strange. And then I will grab a book and think how could I have passed it over. Sometimes I think it is not the book but me-I am just not in the reading mood.

    1. Exactly Esme! When I choose the reading plan on Monday morning I try to choose at least one that has been waiting on me a while any blog tour I may have coming up as well as something I am just really waiting to read. Ahhhh… the best laid plans…LOL

  6. I’ve just experienced something like that, and I feel it was triggered by two reasons. Firstly, I didn’t have an internet connection for some time, so I couldn’t visit the blogosphere, which plays a big part in my reading habits – seeing all this people read, read, read gets me all motivated. I have three books to read and review right now, as well as dozens of books to read for school, most of them 19th century novels. I hope my reading high doesn’t wear off soon!

  7. I get reader’s block when I am on strong medications or in the hospital. I can’t seem to focus. But normally it never happens. I do get sick of certain genres or authors, so I try to rotate what I’m reading.

  8. I have had a bit of readers block too lately. I think there is too much going on in my life recently and I just don’ t really have the concentration for it.

  9. Think most book lovers suffer from “readers block” every now and again. If I’m struggling with a certain book, I set it down and try something else. Usually something that’s a fast, fun read.

Maybe you just aren’t in the mood for a certain book, or are burned out on that particular genre and need something new and different. I used to go on reading jags where I’d read nothing but a certain type of book until I got sick of them, then move on to another type. Trying to keep things balanced now so that doesn’t happen anymore.

Maybe you just need to rest for a bit before diving back into the reading pool?

  10. I’ve been in a few reading slumps. I usually just take a day or two off and that does the trick. Right now I’m in a reviewing slump. I’m so behind on posting my reviews. I think I better “Just Do It” . Like now!!!

  11. I can totally identify with you as I have it right now! I have some really great books to read, but I’m just not ready for them yet. I normally try to read a different genre then my past two books, but this week nothing’s working. I’m blaming it on the weather getting cooler!

  12. I feel bad when I get distracted and only give a book snatches of my time. It may be a good book, but I end up not loving it as much as I could other wise.

I like to read a chic lit, cozy mystery, or a light humorous book (like southern women writers) to cleanse my “reading palate” in-between heavier books.

  13. I have had times when I couldn’t just find a book that grabbed me. I just kept on trying until I found one that did! Glad to hear you’ve broken through the Reader’s Block!

Hmmmm... what do you think?
