Thank you to Valerie at Hachette Book Group for offering up 5 of these books for a giveaway!
Book Information:
The saga of Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar is the tale of origin for all three monotheistic faiths. Abraham must choose between two wives who have borne him two sons. One wife and son will share in his wealth and status, while the other two are exiled into the desert. Long a cornerstone of Western anxiety, the story chronicles a very famous and troubled family, and sheds light on the ongoing conflict between the Judeo-Christian and Islamic worlds.
How did this ancient story become one of the least understood and most frequently misinterpreted of our cultural myths? Gordon explores this legendary love triangle to give us a startling perspective on three biblical characters who–with their jealousies, passions, and doubts–actually behave like human beings.

Sounds like an interesting book.
Favorite Bible story, that is tough, there are many. The one that came to mind first is the raising of Lazarus from the dead. I believe in this story Jesus is not waking Lazarus up, he is telling us to all awake from our slumber, he is looking upon the crowd as they are dead and saying wake up and know the kingdom that is yours.
This book sounds great….although my favorite Bible story has to be David and his wives!

Hi Sheila,
I recently enjoyed reading “Sins of the Father” by Angela Benson. So many problems stem from one dad and husband’s mistakes. The whole family suffers from his choices. I loved the story because it’s about forgiveness. It’s also about how God is able to help us work the worse situations out if we ask Him.
I follow you past and present.
Well, this is non giveaway. Sheila, how do you make the cute pet pop up out of your cup? My pet is stuck in the cup. And thanks again for being my friend.
My favorite christian books of all time would have to be Lori Wick’s A Place Called Home series!

I love the story of Esther. I think that may be my favorite
Ooooh…just one favorite BIble story? I majored in Comparative Religion in college, so it’s tough for me as I studied a lot of the stories. I’d have to say the one about Jesus and Legion…or the one where he curses the Fig tree.
I’m following you on google reader!

Hmmm… I’m not a christian, but I have read the bible and my own holy book contains many of the same stories as that of the bible… As a child (and to this day) my favourite story was always Noah’s Ark. There was something always so majestic about it…

I have so many favorite fiction books but I will have to say Redeeming love by Francine Rivers and my favorite Bible Stories are that of Nehemiah rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem and Esther saving her people. All being used by God for a specific purpose despite great opposition.
Abraham’s part in the Bible is my favorite –sacrificing his son and then God granting his son’s life.
The story (ficitious, actually) of Dinah in The Red Tent. I have read it twice and could read it again soon! Loved it!
My favorite is the Red Tent by Anita Diamant!
