Morning Meanderings… Books and SNOW!

Good morning!  :D

I woke up to a powdered sugar dusting across our lawn.  Yes, even as I type, I can look out the window and see it continuing…

yes…. snow.

I knew it was inevitable… however, looking at the weather forecast, it will be nothing more than this and then back to the mid 30’s and sunny throughout the weekend….

As much as I am LOVING this… I know many of my friends are not as thrilled with the lack of snow…  they are itching to get outside and kids want to go sledding and make snow men… for their sake (and man… I can’t even believe I am saying this) I hope they get it soon.

Ok that’s the snow part of this post and enough of that!  I found a few books when I was checking blogs earlier that I would say are wish list worthy!

It’s a Waverly Life has such a fun cover and Danielle’s review of it over at Chick Lit Reviews and News sealed the deal for me!

Alison’s reviews (Alison’s Book Marks) usually impress me, so I wasn’t really surprised when her review of A Monster Calls by the wonderful Patrick Ness had me adding this one to the MUST be read.  Seriously… you have to read her review.

Honestly, I find many reads at Helen’s Book Blog.  When she reads books like these my mouth usually drops open as I wonder how she discovers these treasures!

Today I need to wrap some gifts, I am having lunch with College son, and need to pick up a few items for the weekend.  It will just be the three of us, myself Al, and Justin for Christmas but I like small gatherings.  We will make pumpkin rolls, watch movies, play board games, eat good things, and just enjoy one another.  :D

What are your Christmas weekend plans?  Any books in the mix?

  1. We have a gloomy rainy forecast for the Christmas weekend and I am glad there is no snow in sight!

I am currently reading Little Women and I hope to finish it by the end of the year. I don’t really have any fixed plans for today or tomorrow but I am planning to play Scrabble with my mom and watch The Help. On Sunday I will be at my sister’s house for Christmas and then we will be at our parents’ house on Monday. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

  2. I really enjoyed It’s a Waverly Life, too. I’m going to check out Chick Lit’s review.

I’m reading The Marriage Plot right now.

  3. I also can’t wait to read Lost Boy, Lost Girl. So many great choices out right now.

Please send the snow this way… we are hoping to ski next week!

    Merry Christmas.

  4. My husband is going fishing with two friends this afternoon and won’t be back until Sat. sometime. Yes, they spend over 24 hours out on a lake in our boat. I’d go, but I only like riding, not fishing.

Saturday I’ll be making cupcakes, cookies and stuff.

Sunday will be spent at home with kids and grandkids. After we eat we play board and/or card games.

  5. There’s no snow here either, but then there hardly ever is. We get snow here once every few years.

Other than a Saturday night church service we’re just relaxing at home from now until next Wednesday. I’m sure we’ll have to come out of hiding to shop for food at some point though. :)

    • OOh I like your plan Alyce. I will be back to work on Monday but tonight I go to church with a friend, tomorrow College son will be here, we will go to church at 4 pm, I am helping at 6 pm…. and then home for an evening of food and board games and probably movies :D

  6. It’s so warm here, we’re thinking of cutting the air conditioner on.

  7. I hope you enjoy the snow. It’s looking like we’ll have a very wet Christmas here!

I’m hoping to finish off a book tomorrow (in between family visits and wrapping presents) and then start another… I need to cramb in a few books this next week.

  8. The snow wasn’t quite so attractive through the windshield of my car as I drove from Rochester to Duluth today. All I can say was there wasn’t a huge amount of traffic, it was light, and I was in no hurry. Had any of those things changed, the stress would have been enormous. Happy holidays!

    • Glad it wasnt too stressful Kathy. I slid a bit yesterday morning going into town but it quickly warmed up and took that slick away. We did not really get any here – just a dusting. Merry Christmas!

  9. Sheila-

A Monster Calls was one of the most powerful books I have ever read. Also, thanks for the recommendation for It’s a Waverly Life-I added it to my TBR list. I try to balance my reading by alternating between heavy and light reads! :)

  10. I am finally catching up on all the things I missed around my favorite blogs while I was busy going candy cane crazy. I just noticed you linked my review! Thank you! (I’m glad you got a chance to read it, because now that it has been up for a while, I’m feeling a bit EXPOSED, and will remove the second half soon.). Thank you for sharing the love!!
